So, in a post where I confessed my sins of selling my 10mm for a 45 ACP I came back to the 10 with a GLock 20 SF.  Also, part of a prents job is to influence thier children and help them make the best decisions possible.  Well, the roles have reversed.  My dad shot my Glock.  He is not a fan of the Glock platform and doesnt see the big hype about them. But he really loved the 10mm.  He bought an EAA Witness Wonder Finish for $329 and says it looks "damned near brand new"!!!  I havent seen it yet, but is there any thing I/he should look for or becareful of.  I know I have read in the past about craking slides and such.  I looked around here but really couldnt find anything.  Any words of advice?

If it has one of the brittle slides, it will crack.  Nothing can be done.  EAA is covering them now.

If it is to be a carry piece, I suggest a better finish.  Mine rusted from every day carry.  Probably could have avoided it but it was in a paddle holster and the gun didn't leave the holster for a week in August right after I got my permit.  When it did, there were a few rust pits.

I am a big fan of the flat bottom firing pin stop.  Hennings makes one for the witness, but you have to call him to get one.

I know it wont be a carry piece other than maybe during deer hunting.  How do I know if its a "brittle slide."  Or do we just shoot until it cracks and then EAA replaces it?

Not all of them crack. Put the block, 20lb spring and a Henning cone guide-rod in there and you should be real good.

Find out if it has red or black follower K10 mags. My Witness guns never had an issue with the reds so recently I traded my K10's to someone needing them. His reds work fin in mine!

   You may want one yourself!

It's the new Round top slides that crack.  The older Square tops are GTG.

Here is a picture of my Cracked 40 round top.

Cracked 3 round tops in less that 100 rounds.  Each trip back to EAA cost me shipping both ways and a lot of lip from the bitch in CS.

They finally realized that the Round Top slide could not handle the pressures of "factory "40 S&W ammo and installed an Older Square Top slide.

If you have the Round top slide, it will crack.

Yes they did have a run of bad (round top) Slides for a short time, but not all of them are bad
As stated above;
EAA does replace the bad ones, and the Square Tops are all good
Here's my 10mm Semi-Compact with the Squared Slide:

So tell me again how Trump was worse then the 8 years before .... AND what came after HIM !

Steve4102

If I could find a 10mm Semi Compact with a square top, I would buy it in a heart beat.  Never again will I waist time and money on any of the EAA round tops.

Just to be clear...I am not saying all the round tops crack.  I am saying that the ones that are brittle will crack no matter spring rates or firing pin stops.  Better find out earlier than later if you have one so I would crank 500-1000 rounds through it right away.  You will be properly familiar with your gun, and will have a high level of confidence you didn't get one that is brittle.

Or you will have a valid warranty claim you can go ahead and take care of :P

I really hope it is the first.

I got to check out and shoot the ol mans EAA today.  It is the sqaure top slide and the mag has the red follower.  Very nice pistol he got there.

If it works don't fix it. Should it have any feed issues try the K10 black mags.

OK, what's a K10 Mag and where do I find them?
