Purchasing Extra M&P 10 Magazines.

Has anyone here been able to do this?? I?ve been in a lengthy email chain with S&W customer service. Frankly, I think they?re lying.

Please respond if you?ve actually been able to purchase one.

Kenk

Evening Graybeard, a buddy of mine has been on an extensive search for their OEM mags with no success. It seems like someone at S&W really dropped the ball on this one

Graybeard

Yes, it certainly does.

I've emailed S&W asking when they'd be available. No real answer. I switched to why aren't they available. No real answer. I asked if they were going to abandon support for this particular gun, before I spend any further money on holsters, night sights, etc. No real answer. I asked if magazines were ever available for purchase. That's where I believe the lie came in. I was told, "We just had some for sale last week. Unfortunately we're sold out." I check the S&W Store site almost daily, at least every other day. There has never been a M&P 10mm listing under caliber or firearms on that page. I was also told that any production scheduling is proprietary information and being a publicly traded company prevents them from disclosing that information.

Anyone else notice that they're not even showing up on Gunbroker at all? Not even from the profiteers at outrageous prices?

I'm seriously considering a sending a letter to the CEO using registered mail. Perhaps his legal department can explain what an implied warranty of fitness is. I hate to be that guy, but perhaps the threat of having to buy them all back will spur a response.

Kenk

Doing a registered letter would be a great idea. In my limited opinion, it?s pretty crappy for a company to offer something, and than not support it. Just seems like some of the big outfits like Mec-Gar would jump on an opportunity like this

I?ve given up entirely on purchasing the M&P 10mm.  Seems very few guns have been released, and as you?ve found no magazines.  Bad reviews on S&W forum.  Customer Service doesn?t exist.  I?m now going to watch the new Sig 320X 10mm.

what? is S&W already discontinuing the 10mm M&P? what kind of problems are they having? I really like my M&P .40 and was hoping to get one in 10mm but this is why I usually wait for a new product to be out for q while before putting my money down. :(

Kenk

Yep, no OEM mags to be found really makes you wonder what they?re doing

Graybeard

To be clear, I really like my M&P 10mm. It is the best ergonomically, for me, of any of the polymer 10mm offerings. I haven't shot, or handled, the Sig yet.

The too casual blow off from S&W customer service is what's really starting to tick me off. Not to mention what I believe to be a lie, "we had some last week."

I, too, waited awhile after hearing early reports of feeding problems. Mine runs perfectly with a variety of ammo I tested at different power levels and lengths.

Seems like S&W is determined to snatch defeat from the mouth of victory with this one. Especially since the current CEO used to be the VP in charge of production and supply chain.

Graybeard

Just looked up the email address for the CEO of S&W. Hopefully it was correct. Sent him this:

Mr. Smith,

I am the owner of one of the aforementioned pistols, as well as several other S&W offerings. I think it is the best on the market polymer 10mm in the areas of ergonomics and recoil management.

Unfortunately, the virtual nonexistence of additional magazines, recoil assemblies, etc, is quite concerning. I have exchanged a lengthy email chain with S&W customer service regarding when and more importantly why, these things aren?t available. Specifically, my concern is that I would like to obtain holsters, night sights, and, of course, additional magazines. I will not do so if S&W isn?t committed to supporting this firearm. More troubling are the replies I received from S&W customer service. They were cut and paste we?re out of stock, keep checking back answers. I also believe I have been lied to. One reply stated, ?we had some last week, but we?re out of stock now.? I check the S&W Store site at least every other day, usually daily. The M&P 10mm has never been listed, either under firearm, or caliber. Searching by part number also comes back as 0 results.

Therefore, Sir, I am asking is S&W committed to providing product support for the wear parts of this gun in a reasonable timeframe? I have researched your background and as the former vice president of production and supply chain. I cannot think of anyone more likely to have an answer than you.

I look forward to your reply.

Kenk

Perfect, I am very interested in their response, as I?m looking at this weapon, or the new Sig in 10mm for a future purchase

Heracles

I wrote to them too, but they don't reply. does anyone have the email address of the S&W CEO? or a current organisation chart from S&W?

The email address for Mark Smith, the current CEO of S&W, is msmith@smith-wesson.com according to the internet. I have not received a reply, or bounce back, from Mr. Smith or whichever underling screens his email.

Here's another twist. After exchanging 5 emails in the same chain with customer service, over the course of 5 days, this tidbit was finally disclosed. "The part number for the 10mm magazine is 3012992, Magazines are not available through our website page you do have to call 1.800.331.0852 ext 4125 to place an order for magazines. "

My response, "Thank you for that information. To be clear, there is no way to know if these magazines are in stock without calling? They will never appear on the Store/Magazines web page?"

Their response, "correct. "

So I called again this morning. Of course mags weren't in stock, but I inquired about a recoil spring assembly, as well. The customer service rep was confused when I told her I had a M&P 10mm compact. Told me there was no such thing. I explained the 4" version was referred to as the compact and asked if the 4" and 4.6" version used the same part. She then told me it was the same part as the 45 and she'd send me one for free under warranty, when they become available.

I don't really know what to make of all of this. Searching the part number on both the S&W homepage and S&W Store page yields 0 results. It would be great to get the correct recoil spring assembly for free, but I'm not holding my breath that it will be the correct one. I'm certainly not getting any warm fuzzy feelings knowing that I have to call everyday, navigate their answering system, and wait on hold to find out if I'll have the opportunity to buy spare mags.

Is this S&W countering the a-holes that use search apps to buy up things, like these mags, and sell them for double or triple online? Has S&W decided to not dedicate any production resources to supporting this gun? I don't know, but it seems very odd that all of the other M&P mags are listed on their store website as "phone order only," but 10mm mags are totally absent.

If I don't get a reply to the CEO email by the end of the week I'm going to start trying the CEO's phone number that I've found.

This is unsolicited advice. If you decide to email the CEO of S&W I would suggest that you remain polite. Criticism, threats, etc, will likely get you ignored and rarely work out for the positive outcome you're looking to achieve.

Graybeard

After calling S&W customer service a few minutes ago and schmoozing a bit with the Rep, he suggested I call back every couple of weeks. I asked if daily was a better idea as I imagined they would sell out pretty fast when they come in. He replied that he wouldn't know as they have never had any to test that theory. So yes, a previous customer service rep did lie in an email stating they had some last week. Today's Rep also told me the company is aware of the issue and they report the content of their calls, as I expected.

Kenk

Daily for sure. What I find interesting, is that they offer a dandy new product, yet didn?t think they would need additional magazines, what the heck were they thinking

blaster

I wonder if the 10mm mags are the same size as the .45 mags? of course the follower & fee lips might be different, if so, maybe they could be easily modified by the factory.
