Ammo

Can't find ammo anywhere. The only thing I have seen anywhere is Buffalo Bore. They have 4 boxes of 220gr at the local Cabela's. Even if I bought all 4 boxes that's only 80 rounds. And the cost would be over $120.

My grandfather gave me everything I needed to start reloading a few years ago. I have done a little here and there. I have a Lee hand press, which works fine for the small amount of reloading I do. However, I can't find any brass or bullets anywhere. The only bullets Midway had when I looked the other day was 200gr Hornady H.A.P. for competition shooters. Brass was sold out. I have 6 boxes of brass (300) ready to go, and probably 250 or so 180gr FMJ to go with them. So I can make 250 rounds. I have a ton of Unique powder and a lifetime supply of primers. Probably 250,000 or so that I got when my uncle passed away.

Anyone know of any place selling bullets and brass?

Natchez is the only place that I have seen with sporadic supplies. They disappear quickly! I am sure others can chime in. Midway has been main supply in past but not recently.

Yes things are rough and finding any primers or powder has been a challenge also!  ???

For brass, get in the backorder line at Starline.  Place an order, and it gets you a place in line for the lot when it's available.  The current backorder status shows less than a month away.  $90/500, shipped.

If you can still get the HAP bullets, don't wait!  Someone will get them, then there'll be none.  They are good bullets, similar to the XTP, the only significant difference is they aren't skived.  Use the same load chart as for the XTP's.

Unique powder is fine for target and mid-range power 10mm loads.  Clean burning if you don't go too light.

Also, maybe consider sharing some of that lifetime supply of primers.  Keep enough for yourself, of course, but many of us handloaders are finding that primers are the bottleneck these days.  250K primers is a LOT of primers.  At any rate, you won't live long enough to use a fraction them in a hand-press.

Consider getting a bench mounted press.  That hand press will get old, real quick!  And, you can fully finance all your upgrades by selling some of those primers!  At about $40/1000 (non-gouge price), it isn't hard to work the math.

Well, they were now sold out of the H.A.P. bullets on Midway. But I ordered a box of 250 of Nosler 200gr JHP for $60 shipped from Natchez.  Those are the only bullets I could find anywhere. And I got in line for an order of Starline brass.

Gun Control?  Oh yes, the theory that becoming a victim is somehow morally superior to defending yourself & your family.  Makes perfect sense.

Have you been missing Kevin's stuff? He has put ammo up maybe 5-6 times in the last two weeks. PBR may have brass soon so keep an eye out!

Midway has 10mm brass in stock. It's nickel starline but they have it! http://www.midwayusa.com/product/941156197/starline-reloading-brass-10mm-auto

For the price premium, I would rather be on starline's backorder list on their webpage.  They are only advertising about three weeks out, and they usually beat those times.

Well, I guess I'm gonna be a reloading fool. Got enough to make about 500 rounds right now with about 500 more on the way. Got new Starline brass and some Nosler JHP 200gr ordered and should be here by the 26th.

My only problem is powder. I only have 2 pounds of Unique. And can't find anything else in any gun store around. Found some online but those "hazardous material handling fees" are not worth paying.

Anybody got any good Unique load recipes worth putting together?

I load Unique under Lee 175 gr SWC with 7.0 grains.  Never put those over the chronograph, but expect them to be about 1100 fps.

I have also loaded Berry's 180 gr TC with 6.7 grains of Unique.  These averaged 967 fps from my Glock 29 with case heads at .431".  The Witness full size delivered 1042 fps with case heads at .429".

From the 1911 they gave 1035 average with case heads at .426".  Brass was used starline, and primers were Winchester large pistol. They were loaded to 1.260" COAL, and I had a couple hang up going into the spout on the 1911 which has shown it doesn't like most bullet profiles loaded longer than 1.250".

Fed perfectly in the Glock and Witness.

You are not going to get full 10mm potential with Unique, but these are definitely more than 40 S&W.

Thank you sir, I believe the last time I was loading 180gr FMJ I was using 6.7 gr of the Unique. I think 7 gr should be about right.

Have you guys used Accurate # 5 or 7 ?
They flow very well through a powder throw and burn very, very clean
As opposed to how dirty (I remember) Unique being
I use 8.6gr of #5 behind a 180 gr TC, but 11.0 gr of #7 works well too
