Not sure what to think about constitutional carry, it seems like some degree of training is a good idea...Thoughts?

Two things that always occur to me are, who decides how much training. Is the time/cost enough to be used to make it nearly impossible for the average person if anti gun rights folks get in charge? Secondly, how will this effect reciprocity with other states. Could be a win/lose in the big picture for Texans.

As soon as training is required for carry, it's no longer "Constitutional"  carry.

Thanks FrankB, I totally agree, there a are tons of safe and qualified folks out there. I just think that some legal speak from someone in the know (a certified) instructor might help folks be better informed to avoid an awful situation

I do believe if someone that decides to carry a weapon on their person should have some sort of training. I also believe that to be incumbent on the individual, not mandated by the government.

Graybeard Texas did not getting rid of their LTC, it's just no longer a requirement to carry. We actually lost some previously held rights regarding signage and places to carry, but those will be remedied in future legislative sessions. Since our legislature only normally convenes every 2 years we are stuck with what we have for a bit.

Losing Constitutional right to vote, and own firearms if you're a felon, or have a less than honorable discharge, or lose the 2A if your ex-wife got you convicted of the misdemeanor of spousal abuse...

Nothing in the Constitution about firearm licenses, background checks or training either.

Fact, you NEVER pay for your crimes, they follow you even if your crime (or discharge) was victimless...

There's no more first amendment either, now we have hate crimes and civil rights suits and job loss... Remember Anita Bryant? Job and career lost for doing NOTHING illegal?

Fourth Amendment? Nope "probable cause" trumps the fourth.

Do the parents who violate local laws and allow their kid to obtain their firearm (through stupidity or negligence) to kill classmates get arrested and convicted? Nope!

Let's hope the POTUS doesn't get wind of caliber restrictions like in Italy, we technically have no "right" to certain military / LEO ammunition eh?

Goodbye 9mm and 223 ammo... law enforcement only  :-)

So should only people with at least a college minor in philosophy or poli-sci get to express opinions?

I agree training is a good idea, but it should not be a requirement to exercise a right.  There is already plenty of liability if you use a gun in a negligent way.

100% on point. Peeps need to think about the differences between rights and privileges. A privilege like driving a car necessitates training, a right does not.
