Well I ran out of Lil Gun powder doing 300 blackout so I thought I could use Reloader 7. Call alliant to get the data but they didn't have any for reloader 7 even though they had it for 7.62 X 39 which is so close but the guy said no to using that data. I sort of heard 2400 mentioned but blew it off as I was not interested but later I called back and got that data as I had a little left. I don't even shoot this waist of a round but all done now. Someone please explain to me the draw to this round as I can't for the life of me figure why anyone would use this over 308 as an example.  Craig

Hey Craig,
Yep, I love shooting .308, it's pretty darn exhilarating rapping off 10 or 15 rd's as fast as you can 😀

Craig the draw was mostly for heavy bullets at subsonic performance...  Lots of people running 220 grain projectiles, many are also using cast and PC coated in them too.

I will say the 300BO people have consumed many of the 0.308 bullets that use to be readily available... Oh well!

I cast, PC and shoot 210 grain and 230 grain projectiles out of AR rifles and pistols in 300 blackout.  Was testing out my newest pistol build last week with subsonic loads of 1680.  I used a "pig-tail" style gas tube instead of just a plain pistol length, and that didn't work.  Gonna have to go to a standard pistol length tube.

The 300 Blackout and 308 are in completely different leagues as far as I am concerned.  I think of Blackout more like I would think of 22 Magnum compared to 223.

Sqlbullet I couldn't agree more!! Your 22 mag to 223 is spot on. I just think it's the gun makers flexing  their mussels to sell more stuff. It is also a carbon copy of the 7.62X39 if you ask me. Case is the same but bullet diameter is different but close. Oh well what ever floats your boat I guess.  Craig

It was never intended to replace the .308. It was defined to be efficient with both supers and subs in a short barreled AR15 platform.

300 Blackout is a variation of a very niche cartridge called the 300 Whisper.

The Whisper was never envisioned as a replacement or even a competitor to the 308.  It was designed for SF teams, to replace the MP5-SD suppressed 9mm.  (and it does that very well)

The only difference between the Whisper and the Blackout is the parent case.  (221 Fireball vs. cut down 5.56/223)

It's only been recently that properly designed 30 caliber bullets have been available and folks have discovered it works in the game fields fairly well against deer and pigs, comparing favorably to the 7.62X39 and even the venerable 30-30 but it's defiantly not in the same league as the 308.

To summarize, the 300 BO is an outstanding suppressed CQB caliber that can be pressed into hunting small - medium size game at closer ranges.

I am not sure how many of you figured this out or not but I don't even own a 308 but would like to. The thread was to state the idea that most loads can be lightened up to shoot sub if needed a sniper rifle although not sure why anyone would need one. As another example I took a 303 British Enfield that was very hard to shoot and did a load using Trailboss and it worked great. Not everyones cup of tea but I think it could be done to an extent with any round!!  Craig

As I stated, The 300 Whisper/BO was only envisioned as a Close Quarters Battle rifle. (CQB)  Something better than the suppressed 9mm H&K MP5SD in use at the time.

The inventor, JD Jones, designed the thing on the M4 platform so that the solders using it wouldn't have to learn a new manual of arms.  It's just an upper swap and even uses the same 5.56 bolt and magazines from the M4.

It's only been recently that the popularity of pig hunting at night has given a new direction for the 300 Whisper/BO.  Bullet companies like, Maker bullets, have designed hunting bullets that expand at subsonic speeds, and new platforms like the Q Mini Fix, have taken the little CQB cartridge into the extremes of whats possible.

As for the suppressed part, I've never understood the fear and vilification of silencers.  Seriously, we mandate by law, a muffler for almost anything that makes noise, except a gun...Never understood that.

And should not require anything more than the standard background check, the tax stamp and lone wait is just crazy
