Hi guys, how are you? I greet you from Argentina.
load 10mm with 165 gr and longshot, I don't think you can use this as a reference because the supplies are not going to be the same as you use but I wanted to do it anyway.
with a load of 8.8 gr longshot and an oal of 1260 "I got 1180fps on average.
with 9.0gr - 1210fps.
with 9.2gr - 1250fps and with 9.4gr - 1278fps,
no signs of over pressure.
Maybe I can continue uploading. what do you think?
the gun is a glock 20 gen 3 factory barrel

I think you could safely work up a bit more. I would suggest increasing .2grs at a time until you see pressure signs or hit the velocity you're looking for. Pushing 165gr bullets over 1300fps shouldn't be a problem with Longshot.

Ballester molina

Thank you for your answers.
I was thinking that the speed should be between 1300fps and 1400fps. I am right?
unfortunately not available on the cci, remington, winchester, federal withering shelves.
there are only a few that are marketed under the full metal signature. made in russia.
which is why I can't experiment with that

Graybeard

I'm sure that you could run them that fast.

Is there a specific purpose you're after? Hunting, self defense, best accuracy, just to see what you can get out of it?

I'm trying to develop a boar hunting charge. with that speed of 1277 fpc I achieved good precision at 25 meters. I don't know if that speed is adequate to bring down a 170-pound pig at 30-40 meters

Sounds like your options are pretty limited. I tend to prefer 180gr 10mm bullets, especially for something that could be dangerous. But since 170lb hogs aren't nearly as tough as 350-500lb hogs, you should be fine.

I understand the desire to push the velocity. You should be able to do that with Longshot safely. But I wouldn't sacrifice accuracy for another 50-75fps. Hollow points limit their penetration by expanding and adding 100fps isn't going to make that much difference. I would increase the charge 2/10ths of a grain until I got to about 1350fps, checking for signs of being over pressure, and make sure accuracy was acceptable.

I would suspect any 10mm bullet still going 1050-1100fps at 40m should get the job done. You just have to make the shot ;)

I also like a heavier bullet but as I said before in other posts, here in Argentina there is no availability of tips for an expansive handgun. I only got 165 jhp. I have a mold read tl 401. could I try to hunt with that boollit

With the correct shot placement, the 165gr would absolutely work. I also prefer 180 - 200gr JHP's for deer hunting, but am not sure what would be best for hogs, as the only hogs we have in MN are on the farm 😀

https://leeprecision.com/mold-dc-tl401-175swc.html This one? The 175gr cast swc is just about perfect for 170lb hogs. Even better, first shot with the 165jhp, follow up shots with the cast bullets.

exactly that mold I have. How fast can I take it? attach a picture of our pigs

1300fps easily. Use good lube and watch your barrel for leading. I forgot that you had a G20. Polygonal rifling has a reputation for that.

Ballester molina

used the liquid alox LEE. one layer before resizing and another after resizing should that be enough?

Graybeard

Probably, but the only way to know for sure is to shoot some.

Have you considered powder coating your cast bullets? Less smoke and no leading in the barrel.

Ballester molina

I'm honestly considering that option. It should only be done with polyester powder paint or it can be applied with a spary gun.
