Thoughts on a quiet, high velocity .177 pellet gun (1,000 FPS or above) I currently have a RWS Model 34 for squirrel eradication, and has proven to be an extremely effective squirrel getter for nearly 15 years. Now that we have new neighbors, something less noisy would be ideal. There are 3 to 4 neighbors that have assisted in squirrel removal over the years, however most have given up or have become complacent.  I also have employed a gamo whisper that is very quiet, but the sights are poor and have been replaced twice...No more Gamo products Thank you. Lastly, I would like to keep the cost at, or below $300.00 if possible.
Thanks

I have an RWS 48 in .22 for the same reason. In the past my neighbors were all for it as we suffered soffit and roof damage from squirrels chewing their way in. Newer neighbors aren't as like minded.

I bought a couple of the hav-a-hart style traps. Old cookies or any dried out sweets make good bait. Then either drive them away or dispatch them quietly.

It'll be well under your $300 budget.

Thanks my Friend but kind of like shooting them myself  😀

You might look into some of the PCP rifles.  My Air Force Talon is a lot quieter than my RWS.  The Talon is a lot higher than your $300 but there are cheaper options that work well according to reports I read.

Its nice to be able to shoot them Kenk...but the trap method is a sure way to catch them and then dispatch them.  Place the trap in a box on the ground and the sound is not going to resonate outward as much.  Good luck!

Thanks man, plus you don't have to stealthy sneak into the new neighbors yard to retrieve them 😀

In 2013 I picked up a break action pellet gun at the local Big 5 when it was on sale.  It had both a .177 and 22 barrel, and I liked it very much.

Sorry to be so short on details like model, etc.  My father-in-law borrowed it for rat and raccoon patrol and it has never come back home.  I will see if I can dig up the details, but it is father-in-law approved.

Speaking of raccoon's if you ever need to dispatch one with a pellet gun, hitem behind the ear, works every time. Had an issue with a rabid coon some years back. I'd pop this critter in the forehead with 1000 FPS HP pellet, and it would just run into the bushes, and then return to the sunflower pile 10 minutes later. This went on for 4 or 5 times, mind you this was at like 2am. At that point I asked the Google, and found the behind the ear trick. Once hit, that 20 + lb critter let out the biggest scary scream and dropped on the spot. The hardest part was getting rid of the stinky buggy carcass

I've trapped a few but it is more of a challenge to shoot them.  Little bastards run now when they see me lol.

Kenk

Lol, me too, especially the little red's that cause so much damage on our homes

I have a Gamo Raptor Whisper that has so far been flawless. It has taken about 50 squirrels this year with a Sig Romeo 5 red dot.

Thanks, will look into that one, I've taken close to 1,500 in 21 years at our place, stopping tallying when I hit 1K 😀😀😀

Morning PCFlorida, is the Raptor Whisper relatively quiet?

PCFlorida

I shot it over my phone running a dB Meter app. While not a precision instrument it is certainly a ROM tester. 85 dB what was it showed.
