DIY longslide build

I thought I'd share the 10mm longslide build I just completed; I did everything but the cerakote and figure I have 40-50 hours into it.  It's a Caspian frame/slide and started with mostly Fusion parts, but only a few of those remain (barrel, MSH/well, thumb safety, trigger).  It was my first 1911 build so I enjoyed learning the design inside and out.  Surprisingly it runs well.  Intended use is deer hunting.

My biggest learning was that using Fusion for parts was a mistake.  Twice they sent the wrong parts, and many of the ones I got were undersized or otherwise out of spec.  The trigger/sear/disconnector/hammer came as a set and had a 9.5lb pull; swapped out the sear/disconnector/hammer for a Cylinder and Slide set with everything else the same and it was 4lb.  The Fusion barrel is accurate and locks up tight after hood fitting but that was luck as there was no extra material to fit either the upper or lower lugs.

Very happy with the Caspian parts (slide, frame, grip safety, recoil spring plug) and EGW (angle bored oversized barrel bushing, extractor, firing pin stop).

Took awhile to get a target with the weather.  Given this is a hunting gun, this target was 25 yards shooting partially braced leaning against a post, like I might use a tree in the woods for stability.  Obviously the opportunity to practice consistent trigger pull with 2 major and a minor group but I'm pleased.

Friends don't let friends buy parts from Fusion.  I started with 80% Fusion parts and replaced all during the build except the barrel and MSH/magwell, which it appears I lucked out with and I managed to get it to lock up tight and shoot well -- not guaranteed as it was not oversize everywhere.  The magwell comes lose every two mags despite loctite, I have half a dozen other 1911 on which I have installed similar designs from other manufacturers and never had a problem keeping them tight.  I actually bought a second one because I stripped the screw and MSH on the first trying to keep it tight (wanted to re-used the shaped magwell I'd already put hours into).

..sorry to hear that about the Fusion parts... I have a couple of their barrels and they shoot great but have never used any of their other parts...
