SPEER 200gr GOLD DOTS!
https://www.grafs.com/retail/catalog/product/productId/82549

So I seen these on Grafs but they were out of stock.. So I Called Speer to see if they actually had been released.. short answer was "NO" but they are coming out as components soon, as well as 200gr TMJ's

I had an in-stock notification for when and if they came back Saturday 3/7.. and when they did I sent out an email to Grafs which was:

Subject: Item #: SP400200GDB
Body: Hello, I set in stock notification s for this item and before I order I had a few questions. I had a Speer rep on the phone inquiring as to the release of the 200gr Speer GD .40/10mm components a few weeks back.. He stated that yes they are coming out but couldn't give me an exact date. He pulled up this items page and said the item code was one he couldn't identify and thought maybe y'all got some from a contract over run. He also said it was likely never going to be back in stock. Which is why I'm asking, are these the real deal? Do they actually qualify for the rebate? How many do you have in stock? Sorry for so many questions, I've been eagerly awaiting the availability of these and I know many others have as well. Thank you for your time, awesome company, and any answers you can provide. -Ben

Response I got:

They are the real deal and should qualify for the rebate. At the present time we have 10 boxes in stock.

Thanks for your email!

ATTN: These are currently the cheapest Speer .40/10 offerings. I cant believe they have them before anyone else and how cheap they are.. I was about to buy all 10 boxes and decided I've got enough other projectiles right now. $227.75 for 1k with GA sales tax. Spend $500 on Speer bullets by April 30th get $100 back. I already got 3,600 150gr .308 Soft Points, with rebate they were only 11.2? ea. Insane :)

Also American reloading has 180gr HST Pulldowns for 9.75? ea. right now, and that would equate to 2,333 to the 1k Speer 200 GD's price wise :) When the HST's are gone on there.. SpectreSupply on gunbroker has continuously had them for months for 10? ea. shipped

If you plan on buying any Speer tis` the time of the year :)
Happy & Safe reloading..

I had begged Speer to make them as handloading components, Looks like they have fulfilled that wish!   ;D

Yeah, I pulled the trigger over the weekend on a slug of Speer stuff over the weekend. The added rebate made it a real sweet deal. I haven't been able to find anyone with a volume of the 75gr HP 6mm that my varminter and 6x45 shoot in a hole at 100 yds. Grafs had them. Grafs hard to beat due to fixed shipping and pricing. I didn't see the 200gr 40 calibers at all on the list. Probably would have bought a few just to play with. Now that you've bragged about having them, you owe everybody a range report.

I shoot a lot of the .40 calber 180gr HST from American Reloading. The bullet they show in the current offering is not exactly the same bullet I have. Mine do not have a cannelure on the bullet at all and are contract over runs, not pulled. Over the years I've kinda backed off buying the pulled bullets. Usually when they pull a bullet, it's due to an issue with the bullet. You can get varying weights, different lengths, some out of round, some not fully formed, most will have different ogives. But they've worked good enough to kill paper. I've yet to have any fatal injuries from a paper target monster, a few have caused bleeding of the hands but nothing serious.

Yeah Grafs is certainly hard to beat with there shipping and overall availability. I picked up some Power Pistol for the first time when they first started running the free hazmat deal since shipping amounts changed. $257 delivered for 12#'s. I got 2k 180gr HST's & 175gr Hornady FTX's about a year ago from AR and honestly just now started loading em`. Its just so hard when there's so many options out there! 125gr Barnes Tac-XP's at 1650+ riding over PP outta my comp`d 5" 1911 this last weekend. The expansion on those are not joke, perfect uniform .77" but almost only made it through 2 gallon jugs. I found those for $18.99 a box on Grab-A-Gun, tried to order 20, but only got 7 :(

I just Love finding deals on stuff that typically cost $1.75 a loaded round and having thousands to develop a load, punch paper/water jugs, and not hear your wallet cry. I'm pretty excited to see if those FTX's expand better at Carbine/Power Pistol Velocities :) Nosler 200g JHP & Hornady 200gr XTPS couldn't be stopped or caught by 4 gallon jugs @ 1,420 avg.

Too much fun :) -Ben

Ordered a couple hundred 200 grain gold-dots this afternoon...free shipping with 10,000 primers.

I'm not much of a hoarder or catastrophizer, but it seems like ammo always gets more expensive and more scarce around elections. I plan to have all my powder, primers and bullets stockpiled before July.

Anyone have any good 200 grain gold-dot loads?

MuskRat, In my recent testing of the Speer 200 Grain Gold Dot I used 8.4 grains of Alliant BE-86 powder that yields 1235 fps with the S&W1006 5"...This is a flash suppressed powder good for self defense.  I sent some to Mr. Revolver Guy and his test confirmed what I saw as well.

Day at the Range 10mm 200 Gold Dot Test

BE-86 8.3 grains from the Colt Delta Elite 5"

1) 1217 FPS   657 ft/lb   243 PF
2) 1192 FPS   630 ft/lb   238 PF
3) 1235 FPS   677 ft/lb   247 PF      Average 1212 FPS
4) 1232 FPS   674 ft/lb   246 PF
5) 1186 FPS   624 ft/lb   237 PF
Penetration   19"
Expansion   0.862"

BE-86 8.3 grains from the S&W 610 3 7/8"

The factory ammo showed less powder and less velocity:

Thanks Shadow,
I tried to get a pound of BE-86 with my order, but they have a four-pound minimum and that was more than I wanted to spend. I've been trying to find it locally but no dice. I'll measure and see how similar it is to a XTP 200 grainer and extrapolate a load with the powders I have on hand (Longshot, AA9, Blue Dot, HS-6, Unique, Tight Group, Power Pistol, 800X).

Honestly I just bought them for the novelty. I'm lucky enough to live where big furry things are the primary concern, so hard cast Keith bullets are my go-to for cary, and Blue Bullets are my go-to for practice. I don't honestly have a use for 200 grain gold dots, but I thought it was a cool idea. I'll blow up some water jugs I guess.
