Hey there folks,

Recently found this forum and did some digging around. Excellent information here, and some new found info that put the XDM on my radar.

Some background on how I plan to use my 10mm: I plan to use it as a woods gun while out archery hunting, hiking, camping and so on. I do plan to run hot loads such as Buffalo Bore, DoubleTap, etc.

I would prefer to keep the handgun as stock as possible but I am open to ideas for mods since y'all are the experts here.

I am torn between these 2 platforms and could use any advice you can give me!

Thanks in advance!

Glock owner here.

IMHO, no difference really in the basic quality of the platform.  HS Produkt made a good gun and Springfield was wise to license it and expand it the way they have.  And you can't really argue with the Glock platforms success, and they didn't get it by being junk.

Glock has a slight edge in aftermarket support.  It seems the street price of the XDM is a little better unless you are a GSSF member and have a GSSF retailer nearby that stocks G20/29 guns.

Generally when I am in your situation I just suck it up and make the hard call....And buy them both.

Hello and welcome to the forum tanker95.  I am a Glock fan with the gen 3 G-20SF and G-29 pre SF.  I will add that I changed to a non captive Wolff Recoil system on both running 22 lbs springs for the 20 and 21 lbs dual springs in the 29 as they add more spring pressure at lock up and full recoil.

While XDM is a nice gun I haven't ventured out with those!

I have both and both have distinct characteristics so both are excellent guns. I am on the fence can't really say one is much better than the other as I shoot both very well and they are reliable as the other.

Honestly  if you want to get a 10mm, and get those most out of it without mods, then get the XD-M 5.25". The 10mm works best with a 5" and longer barrels. If you want it for concealed carry, get the Glock 29.

If you want one to play around with, modify and tune to your liking, get the Glock 20 Gen4. Then get you a 6" or 7" barrel for it, to really ring out the best of it.

The 5.25 XD is pretty sweet, as bad as I hate to admit it (Glock koolaid drinker). They feel good in your hand, share a 1911 grip angle, and the ones I've seen personally produce very good velocity. The Glocks are like the small block Chevy of guns. Easily and cheaply modified, with a never ending aftermarket.

I have  both, they are both good tools. But I like the XD more. Feels better and is a little slimmer.
