Any 460 Mags here. I have been researching the hell out of this thing. I have been drooling over this revolver for years, but never went after it. MY local retailer has a used one for a pretty decent price and I am strongly considering this. Im trying to figure out how the recoil feels and try to compare it to something I have shot before. Before I drop this kind of money I want to make sure this is something I am going to like shooting. I have a Super Red Hawk 44 Mag and a Black Hawk 41 Mag. I think there is more recoil in the 41 than 44. The largest cartridge handgun I have ever fired is a Thompson Enocre in 270 Win, which wasn't bad at all.

And for those of you shooting it. I see most of the ammo is listed as 2200 FPS. But I have run across some hunting rounds, Federal Fusion for example, with a 1600 FPS. Why the big of a difference. I know the gun was designed for the higher velocity rounds so are the slower ones going to be less accurate? I would imagine less range, or more hold over for distance. Even the Speer manual for the Deep Curl/Gold Dot hunting lists in 1800 FPS range.

Talk me into or out of this beast. Do I need it? No but I want it. Am I going to hunt with it? Maybe, most likely.

Thanks

That 460 is a hand full and most I see are shooting with bipods to help mitigate recoil.  I too have looked long an hard at them but I passed on it having the S&W Mod. 29 44 mag with 8 3/8" bbl.

Thanks Shadow. I am still on the fence about it. Not just wondering how the recoil is, do I want to start another caliber. Buy brass, dies etc.. Running out of room on the bench and cabinet.

I have one with the 5" barrel. It isn't something I take to the range every time. It is fun to shoot, but just for a short while. I have shot Hornady 200 grain through it almost exclusively. For me, it is just another toy. If you are opposed to attracting attention, it isn't for you either. It always attracts attention (sometimes good, sometimes bad) when I shoot it. It is the only gun that has ever got me "shuusshhed" at the range. It's kinda like buying a motorcycle for me. It's not done because it makes sense, it's done for purely illogical reasons.

I absolutely love mine it's the 7.5 from the custom shop.

Yes they recoil but the brake mitigates that.
Now if you are firing 340 grain cast as I have it is beast.
I purchased a 270 grain WFN GC from Accurate gun mounds for full house rounds from the big beast.
One the most accurate guns from the bench I own.
Longer the barrel the more controlled the recoil is.
Great gun for all sorts of game up to some of the largest in NA and even Africa.
I use a Bandelaro from Pistol Packaging for carrying the gun.
I went with the 7.5 it's a great compromise of weight length and recoil control.
I have also used the short sling to carry the revolver but prefer the holster.
Reloading is a must as commercial amok is expensive. It's easy to reload and it shoots cast full power with great accuracy. I have taken elk with mine it is more than capable of harvesting elk at distances greater than 100 yards.

Buy it! I've had mine for over a decade and fell in love with it instantly. I've killed deer with it at over 100 yards from tree stands and don't need a bipod. I shoot only factory Hornady XTP ammunition because I don't reload and the gun just flat works.

Thank you for the replies. I kinda forgot I posted this. Although this is still a revolver I want to get one day, I have chosen a different path. My first 44 Mag was a Taurus Raging Bull. I loved the gun. But I sold it to get a Super Redhawk 44 Mag. A small local dealer had a Raging Bull 41 Mag. This thing was in pristine condition. I don't think it had ever been fired.  These are not made anymore and the price keeps going up on them. But I don't buy anything I am not going to shoot. It shoots really well. Better than my Blackhawk 41 Mag. I will have to pray to the overtime gods and save my pennies again for the XVR.

If I am not mistaken, you can also fire 454 casull , and 45 colt in the that patricular pistol making it very tempting for me. I will own one one day for sure.

Recoil in the 8 3/8ths barrel was about like a hot loaded 44 magnum. It was very comfortable to shoot especially compared to the 500 S&W I had. It has the power of the 444 marlin in a pistol.
I was shooting 240gr XTP Mag bullets and 300gr XTP Mag bullets in it. It's just a huge pistol to pack around.
The 450 Bushmaster in a rifle has the same power and devastation on game.
