In experimenting with the 1095 and attempting to find a hunting load for white tail deer here in Ohio I've been playing with the Hornady 200gr XTP. I had loaded some to run through the chronograph and check for accuracy. I first tried the 180's a while back, and at close range, the bullet simply failed. We're talking almost a 100fps above the Hornady range, and the bullet tore itself apart.

Loading the 200gr XTP i figured would be my best option to keep the velocity in check, but I learned some interesting data points today. In this gun, 800-x and Longshot with the 200gr bullets either needs to be bumped up, or just doesn't have the gas to continue accelerating them down the 17.5" barrel. I'm leaning towards the first option. But since I was over book max, not much but .2grs on longshot at 8.4gr and over by .1gr with 800-x, I don't want to push it in the blowback action.

AA#9 on the other hand, pushed them hard, and achieved probably the best combination of velocity and accuracy. I didn't test the longshot or 800-x loads for accuracy because of the extreme spreads. Also noted was very soot covered casings, which I tend to theorize the load needed bumped up as previously mentioned. The 800-x load didn't have the extreme spread that the longshot load showed, however the AA#9 was extremely tight spread. A total of 9fps across 5 shots.

My ideal velocity was around 1400fps, the AA#9 load did that. I was .5gr under max according to Hornady, and could probably squeeze some additional velocity out, but this load performed well. Grouped well, even with doing more rapid firing versus slow firing. Had I done this, I believe I would have had excellent groups.

I didn't give this gun much promise when I purchased it, I wanted to actually dislike it, but so far it has been a decent carbine, even handling full 10mm loads and just keep running without a hiccup.
