Any opinions on these? A guy is offering me one as a part trade on an AK.

I know about two years ago I wanted to have one soooo bad.

A guy was offering to trade a Dan Wesson C-BOB 10mm for an FN-5.7, hence my desire. :P

I am about to make one of those statements that always gets taken wrong.  I get that the 22 mag is no 5.7X28.  But, for what I would do with the gun, I think a Kel-Tec PMR-30 would do just fine.

I like the FN 5.7.  It was one of the guns I just had to have.  I never got one, but my dad did.  Ammo can be a little hard to find.  Until recently ammo was only being produced (that I know of) by FN.  Within the last month Federal has come out with a 5.7 ammo in their American Eagle line.  Here they are $20/box (50) and are 40 gr FMJ.  The Kel Tec PMR 30 is another awesome gun and is fun to shoot.  Another caliber that I have heard is the caliber developed to compete with the 5.7 is the .22 TCM.  This is a fun little round to shoot also, although the ammo is a little tougher to find.  Right now I only think its made by Armscorp.

In my opinion, it seems like the 5.7 is one of those guns people get so they can have it.  They shoot it alittle bit, then the novelty wears off and they trade it for something else.

The FN-5.7 reminds me of the 9x25Dillon and the .223BOZ cartridges...except the FN-5.7 doesn't fit the 10mm gun platform.

I'd like to be able to get some 0.355" bullets, sort of a rifle type with spire tip or hollow tip and boat tail shapes for improved trajectory at long range!  A 125 or 130 grain spire point with a power band to equal the case neck length and a small boat tail while maintaining 1.255" COAL.
These would benefit from the design for a very flat shooting round @ around 1800 fps from a 5" barrel.

Thanks for the replies. As mentioned, it's a pistol I'd like to shoot a few times....but..   Think I'll pass.

I have 2.

One is my night stand gun equipped with a Viridian C5L laser and tac light.

The second is a primary carry weapon for CCW.

These guns are very effective and deadly.  Many competitors are going this route because they are so easy to shoot and they are incredibly accurate double taps are easy and groups so small you will astounded with the guns accuracy and ease of putting rounds on target. I was at the range one day and some friends of mine were watching me run some defensive handgun drills with mine. They scoffed at the accuracy potential of the gun and power. They had milk jug of colored water at 100 yards they were shooting at with the AR15 one was left they bet me that I could not hit that jug at 100 yards. I took the bet but asked if I could have 5 rounds to walk my shots in. They agreed on shot number two the milk jug exploded with a dead center hit. Yes they are that accurate and they are powerful. A carry weapon is personal choice so I am not trying to convince anyone what they should carry. I carry this gun daily and have premium grade defensive round and loaded with 20 round magazine it is my first choice for carry. The gun is light weight and you hardly know it is there when carried IWB.

Many say speed is over hyped one the most famous and effective one shot stop rounds used in self defensive or law enforcement shooting is the 357mag 125 gr HP it is a screamer out of 6" platform I wonder if the speed has anything to do with its effectiveness as one shot stopper? the 5.7 is close to 2100 fps at the muzzle at 21 feet it is still over 2000 FPS. Talk about disruption of critical biological material.

I have done allot of comparative testing in gel and wet news print with some very well known and proven defensive rounds the 5.7 showed performance in some cases on par and surpassed others. Many police departments issue or have 5.7 in there arsenals as specialized or daily carry many special tactical units use it and even the Secret Service carries the restricted full auto version. I can based on personal expereince tell you this isn't your grandpas 22 mag. These are serious self defense weapons. They could I suppose be used for varmint hunting and be very effective for that purpose.

Nice gun hard to come by right now. Ammo is as well but that will ease up some once demand drops below supply.

By the way I have over 3000 rounds of 5.7 under my belt so I have shot it allot.

Just my 2 cents thanks for reading.

I would not carry this gun or probably even use it for self defense. Bullet travels very fast and does not do as much damage as other calibers, but it is one hell of a fun gun to shoot..... I'd get one if you have money to blow on a fun gun/ammo. That's all I see it's purpose for really.
It's ok to be jealous. We understand your animosity. We live the life you wish you had. And of over 4000 universities and over 1700 division 1 schools, only one is simply known as "The U"

It's a great round although I won't reach 2100 FPS out of a 5" with ss197s.  It is unfortunate that is is priced a tad high for most people to try out w/o knowing more.  Most will more than likely buy another 1911 in that price point.  Alot of things are going against it and none of it has to do with ineffectivenss.  It operates at 50K in a blowback action and will fire out of battery.  Being bottleneck if your sizer is not set down far enough this can have some ......well...immediate bad effects.  With the right ammo it's very accurate.  Yes, milk jugs at 100 yards isn't out of reach with some pratice.
