Older Razorback- Should I put in a ramped barrel?

I've got an older DW Razorback with the standard 1911 barrel setup. I'm thinking about having it milled out for a ramped barrel- to use the full range of 10mm that's available these days. Is there a downside? I'd appreciate your thoughts.

I can't speak to DW, but Colt proof tests every single one of their "unsupported" barrels.  That is a load that is 25% over SAAMI max pressure.  I would expect the same to be true of Dan Wesson.  I would note that brass used in such proof loads is expected to be trashed and should go in recycle bin, not the reload bin.

Your ramped frame is fully able to support any load that is reasonably in SAAMI spec for 10mm, assuming the barrel throat hasn't been tampered with by a shade tree gunsmith that doesn't understand 1911 mechanics.  If the barrel has been hogged out, it should be replaced with a proper un-ramped barrel from a reputable maker.

Downside is a bunch of expense, and possible a gun that will no longer run reliably depending on the quality of the work.  Costs is going to be $400 and on up; Barrel (225 and up), frame cut (100 and up), fitting (85 and up).

I guess my 2¢ is don't buy into the hype that an un-ramped barrel is somehow "less than".

Thanks!  I've run Double Tap and Underwood's Delta Elite through it without an issue. Except for a different set of sights, my Razorback is as it was from the factory.  It was a gift from my wife, and I'm not sure I want to do anything to it because of the sentimental value.  I know it sounds cheesy, but, hey, it's kinda cool to say "this was a gift from my wife."  Guys I shoot with agree she's got to be the best wife... ever!

Yep, I've got a wife like that too...very Blessed!

I appreciate your input!  I think I'll leave it alone.  Opinion - and I think I know what you'll say, but I want to hear it anyways - am I ok to shoot the hottest stuff through it?  I've done multiple DoubleTap loads and Underwood's Delta Elite loads.  Could I go for the rest of the Underwood line?
Thanks!
