I bought one new in '15. Did the hand racking 100's of times, used only the supplied oil. Mine locked up after 12 rounds fired, it galled pretty badly. Sent it back, they lapped it but the rails were still nasty looking. Seemed to function alright after that though the slide stop would engage all the time. While trying to work through that the
firing pin stop fell out. I got a little frustrated w/it and let it go. I have a bunch of 1911's, only 1 10mm now, a Springfield custom shop gun. I don't have any DW 1911's, I hear good things about them but have no interest in trying again.
mistman did you discuss your issues over in the 1911 forum in the DW section??? If you did I'll get the popcorn out!!!

The FPS didn't fall all the way out just enough that the slide stuck open, it was about 1/2 way down. Fitting a FPS is no big deal. I already had my custom on order and was a bit biased against the gun anyway due to the initial problem. My experience w/DW wasn't the warm fuzzy one a lot of other people talk about, it didn't take much for me to lose total interest in the gun. The guy who bought it likes it.

Yeah, unfortunately I did relate my issue on 1911forums, I don't post on that site anymore. Live and learn. At the time it was a big issue for me, it was still early in my 1911 'addiction' and felt wrong. I couldn't correlate my experience w/DW to all the other fan boyz and developed a lasting aversion to anything DW. I don't feel I'm missing out, there are a LOT of nice 1911's. I also realize it's irrational but it doesn't bother me ;D

So the firing pin had to be stuck forward far enough for the FPS to drop down? If that's the case, probably a good thing the FPS stopped the slide. The next one would probably have been a slam fire.

I used to belong to the 1911forum, too. Not that friendly in my experience. Got roundly criticized for using SS media wet system for cleaning my brass. Apparently, I'm an idiot because having brass that clean and smooth "isn't necessary." That was just one of many that lead to somewhat personal attacks and criticism. There were some pretty decent members over there, but it seemed like there was always a jackass or two that wanted to argue over nothing.

Much nicer environment here!

You are so wrong.  We totally have jackasses here.  Lets argue about it! ;D

If the FPS is loose and the firing pin spring is weak, it can fall down right as the slide opens before the firing pin as a chance to move back into place.  Not common, but I have heard of this before.

Graybeard

Hah!! :)) You got me with that one sqlbullet. I actually did laugh out loud.

Thanks for the explanation on the FPS falling out. I was having a hard time visualizing the mechanics of that happening. I've shot 1911s for over three decades. Been around a lot of others shooting them also, competitively, and never seen that happen. I learned something today. Thanks!

I bought a used one from GB and I couldn't be happier. Beautiful and functions flawlessly.

Your totally right Graybeard, the folks that frequent this forum are well behaved, with little to no belittling, a total rarity in this day and age
