Is it ok to use a .40 case gauge for 10mm?  I have the EGW model that has 9mm, 38 super, .40 and 45 acp
Obviously the length is different which I verify with calipers.  Is the case gauge mainly for size/diameter of the case and/or length also?
It's not a problem to buy specific 10mm gauge, just thought I would ask.
Thanks, Nelson

The 40S&W is about 1/8" shorter than the 10mm, it is possible to check 40 diameters with the 10mm and it will slide deeper into the gauge.   The problem with the case expansion is mainly at the area just above the cut for the extractor rim.  That is why pass through sizing is recommended because standard sizing dies don't touch that area sufficiently due to shell holder or plates and the radius inside the sizer die entrance.

I use a 10 mm case gauge.   I leave it next to the press and every 50th round I check to make sure that the case length and other dimensions check out.  Due to the profile of certain bullets (some manufacturers of 180gr TC), I sometimes have to have a fairly long OAL.   This check helps me ensure that my rounds are not over long.   Have never had a problem with any round that passed on the gauge.
