Yeah, my experience is the same.  I had a friend get reprimanded during a traffic stop because he had a CCW but wasn't carrying.  That is my kinda officer!

I shoot with these guys and other LEO's often and talk to all of them. They aren't worried about the law abidding citizen, just crooks. They see us as extra Police force and are totally not against it.

They lied to you.  It isn't "they see us as extra police".  Truth is, there's a LOT less paperwork and hassle when you're reporting that someone else shot someone, than you shot someone.  The only disadvantage is you don't get the paid mini-vacation.

It is right, in a sense, though.  I patrolled a very remote area, and it was comforting to know my neighbors were my back-up.  Very often while on a traffic stop, a local would stop some distance behind and dim lights.  I knew who they were.

As far as worrying about law abiding citizens, no worries.  Most people will do what's right, and crooks are crooks.  I'm more worried about the actions/inactions of a rookie, than most Joe Citizens.  One chose a job, the other chose a lifestyle.  Rarely do they cross paths.
