What is the difference between Federal "Premium", Federal Vital Shock and Federal Hydra Shok?

Mostly bullet styles...
The Hydra Shok had a small post inside the HP http://10mm-firearms.com/factory-10mm-ammo-pull-downs/federal-hydra-shok-180gr-jhp-(old)-pull-down/

The Hi Shok had deep open HP http://10mm-firearms.com/factory-10mm-ammo-pull-downs/federal-hi-shok-180gr-jhp-(10c)/

Then there are the Federal Premium Tactical HST with long skives down the sides with a deep HP (none in 10mm) but the 40S&W can be found here http://10mm-firearms.com/factory-ammo-pull-downs/40sw-ammo-pull-downs/

The Trophy Bonded is a JSP design http://10mm-firearms.com/factory-10mm-ammo-pull-downs/federal-trophy-bonded-180gr-jsp-pull-down/

They change up things over time as new items are made and contracts are made...

The Federal Premium Hydra-shok is junk.  It's basically a 40 cal performance fired out of 10mm cartridge.  The Hydra-Shok was state of art JHP.....Back in the 1980's & 1990's.  It's performance has been greatly surpassed by HST, Gold Dot, Ranger (black talon), PDX1, XTP, Critical Duty, Barnes, etc.

The Federal Vital-Shok Trophy Bonded JSP is brand new and much, much better than the Hydra-Shok in my opinion.  It's real 10mm performer in a bonded soft point.  Nearly same cost but no comparison on performance.  Don't waste your $$$ on Hydra-Shok (they should retire it); Vital-Shok way to go in my opinion.

The Bonded Soft Point is a Hunting round. It will work for a self defense round, but may easily suffer from Over Penetration in a self defense situation.

But if you have Bear, Deer or Elk Problem, that JSP is your ticket.

Federal promotes the Vital-Shok as excellent 10mm choice for self defence & hunting.

Andrew tested one shortly after they came out:  http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KTAdVZXLnb0

16.7" of penetration in calibrated gel (no denim) w/ .637 max expansion (looks pretty decent to me).

12" to 18" is the desired depth in calibrated gel.  Some may be concerned about Vital-Shok's upper end penetration but it works for me.  Particularly in designated role I prmarily carry my 10mm for.

Thanks
