A Third Colorado Senator Throws In The Towel Over Gun Control: Hudak Resigns Instead Of Facing Voter Recall
SPECIAL

Democrat Evie Hudak resigned from the Colorado State Senate.

Democrat Evie Hudak watched in September as Colorado voters sent two of her party colleagues in the State Senate home. Like them, Hudak had supported gun control legislation earlier this year that left many Coloradans angry — angry enough to force two successful recall votes against prominent Democratic supporters of the law.

Hudak, herself the target of a petition to hold a recall vote, would have learned on Dec. 3 whether the petition had gathered enough signatures. But she evidently saw the writing on the wall: On Wednesday, without waiting for the petition to be submitted, she resigned her Senate seat.

Hudak's resignation means she will avoid the humiliating experience that Senate President John Morse and Senator Angela Giron endured. Morse and Giron chose to fight voters' recall efforts, both in the courts and on the campaign trail. Each had ardently supported gun control. Each was recalled on Sept. 10 and replaced by a Republican.

If Hudak had lost a recall vote, control of the State Senate would have flipped from Democratic to Republican. Hudak and the State's Democratic Party leadership decided that avoiding that scenario was sufficient justification for her to resign.

From Fox 31 in Denver:

By resigning before the signatures are turned in, she assures that a Democratic vacancy committee will appoint her replacement, keeping the seat — and the senate — in the party's hands, at least through November [2014], when her successor will be forced to win reelection.

State law says that an office-holder can resign up to five days after the Secretary of State deems signatures sufficient to force a recall election, but it's possible a judge could disagree and allow an election to go forward.

Given their track record in court, Democrats decided not to take that risk.

Hudak did herself no favors in the political fallout that ensued following Governor John Hickenlooper's signing of the gun control measures back in March. She seemed insensitive and out of touch with reality when she tried to redirect a rape victim who testified to the Senate that her ordeal would not have happened if she'd been allowed to carry a legal firearm on a college campus.

From the Denver Post:

Gun-rights activists in Colorado and nationally ripped Hudak for her inartful questioning of a rape victim during a hearing in March on a bill to ban weapons on campus. The woman told lawmakers that had she been permitted to use her concealed-carry permit and carry her gun on campus, the incident may have ended differently.

Hudak disagreed.

"I just want to say that, actually statistics are not on your side even if you had a gun," Hudak said, during the hearing. "And, chances are that if you would have had a gun, then he would have been able to get that from you and possibly use it against you."

Of that comment, we wrote at the time:

It isn't clear where Hudak got her numbers, but FBI statistics indicate that firearm use for self-defense outnumbers criminal firearm use 4-to-1. Of the 2.1 million times firearms are used in self-defense annually, 1.9 cases involve handguns and 10 percent involve women fending off sexual predators.

Also according to FBI numbers, there were an estimated 83,425 forcible rapes reported to law enforcement in 2011. Females age 16 to 24 have the highest likelihood of becoming the victim of rape — two to three times higher.

Mr. AR50

Hudak took the cowards way out- we had enough signatures for a recall vote. As far as those crazy laws are concerned,a recall effort is already being organized for our pathetic excuse for a governor, John Hickenlooper. He's the moron who signed those bills into law in the first place. He pissed a lot of people off in this state when he signed those laws, and made things even worse when he commuted the death penalty sentence of a convicted killer to life in prison. With a little luck, Tom Tancredo will be our next governor, and these anti 2A laws will be history.

The upside, they just may have decided it's best to avoid future firearm legislation. Unfortunately, gun grabbers have faulty long term memories.

Still, congrats, Colorado.

Hudak took the cowards way out-

Not really.  A coward is someone who lacks courage and/or is afraid.  She did not resign because she was afraid or lacked courage, she resigned because this was the only way for her "Party" and her "Beliefs" to stay alive.  That takes courage.

Her resigning was a political move to maintain a Democrat majority.  She won.   The Democrats will maintain the Majority in the Senate.  Game-set-Match.

What's going to happen is her appointee will have to run in 2014.  This will be the test on who has "short  memories" the Democrats or the outraged citizens of Colorado.

My guess is that this "new" Senator will campaign hard on this "Gun" issue and schmooze and bamboozle many of the "outraged" citizens of Colorado into believing that he/she had nothing to do with it and does not support it, KNOWING full well that law will never be brought up for a repeal vote or be rescinded.
This appointee will get reelected in 2014.

Mr. AR50

Steve, I say again, you underestimate the good people of Colorado. We've had enough of the liberal direction that our state has taken. In case you haven't noticed, there are now THREE very liberal, very anti 2A, and very UNEMPLOYED Democratic Senators from Colorado, with a governor soon to follow. We are working every day to gather enough support to force a repeal of the laws that Hickenlooper signed, and we have the support of 57 of our 62 sherrifs, who have filed a lawsuit against the state of Colorado, challenging the constitutionality of those laws. Can the state that you reside in, or for that matter can you, say that you have put that kind of effort into supporting the Second Amendment? I doubt it.
BTW, Evie Hudak may not fit yours or Webster's definition of a coward, but she is indeed a bully and a coward. Just ask the rape victim who was publicly belittled by Hudak for wanting to protect herself with a gun on her college campus, or the woman whose home Hudak pushed her way into while campaining, demanding an answer as to why she refused to vote for Hudak. In both cases, Hudak declined to comment. Last, but not least, Hudak resigned her Senate seat when it became obvious that enough signatures had been gathered for a recall, rather than continue the illusion that she would prevail. I don't know about you Steve, but I sure as hell wouldn't call her courageous.

She sacrificed her Political Career  for the good of her party.  They said "Toilet" and she shit, took one for the Gipper so to speak.

I have no doubt that there are thousands of dedicated Patriots like you fighting hard to take your State and this Country back, but I think you are "underestimating" your enemy.

This recall movement is fueled by anger and frustration.  Whether they realize it or not, it will be hard for the "good Citizens of Colorado" to transfer all that anger and energy to a person that had nothing to do with the current laws or situation.

The Socialist are masters at Propaganda,  Manipulation, Lies and half truths.  Never underestimate the power they have and their ability to control the Media and every information outlet available.

Her replacement  will most likely  be a Local boy, a Colorado Native, a family man, and of course a Gun Owner and a Hunter.  He might even have a phony NRA Membership card and a few Trophy's on his wall .  He and his MSM friends will portray him as a god fearing, gun loving Democrat that supports only " Common Sense Gun Laws" that are designed to keep  "Assault Weapons" and "Automatic" weapons out of the hands of Criminals, not his fellow Hunters and fellow Gun Owners.

The anger and frustration will pass and the lies and manipulation of the facts will take control as it always does.

Lets not forget what the MSM will do to his opponent.  They will dig up dirt both fact and fiction and turn the Gun Community against him/her.  This will anger the "good Citizens" of Colorado and they will turn against him, being left with little hope.

But wait, there is Hope, the Democrat Funded Libertarian Party Candidate to the rescue.  With the help of Obama and Co's Money he will convince the Conservative in Colorado that he is the only real choice thus splitting the Rep vote ensuring a Democrat Victory.

I hope I'm wrong, but I have seen it to many times to think otherwise.

Good Luck!

Steve4102

Oh, one more thing.

Here are the results of her last election.  Note the Obama Funded Spoiler taking more than enough votes away from a Rep Victory.

This of course will  be SOP in 2014.

Hudak (D) - 35,664
Sias (R) - 35,050
Sweeny (L) - 5,104

I wish and hope that you are wrong, but you may well be right.  The Libs are masters of manipulation.  They assume most people are stupid, and often they are proven right.  The last presidential election is pretty good proof of that.

And we will have plenty more proof of that in 2014 and 2016 when the Democrat Funded Libertarian  Candidates siphon off 7-10% of the Republican vote in both the House and the Senate ensuring a Democrat Super Majority.

Steve4102

It's also my understanding that the "Recall" elections that did take place were between one Democrat and one Republican with no Obama Funded Libertarian spoiler on the ballot.  This is key as to why the Rep ousted the Socialist Democrat.

The left will certainly correct this issue in 2014 and make sure there is a Libertarian Spoiler on the ballot.

Gotta luv the third Party Mentality dontcha !
