I have a sweet glock 20 LS, it has a trigger job, csmo hydro dipped paint ob the slide... It's a larger weapon and unconfortsble to wear in and out the vehicle. I know a chest holster would be better. however, would it be dumb to trade this gun for a g29 with xs big dot sights and cash so I could put a 4.6 inch barrel. I use my guns at the ranch and used to have a g19 and loved the size which is similar to the 29.
I know the 29 would be a better back up gun but with the 4.6 inch extended barrel and shorter site radius would it be a work for a primary gun on deer and pigs? What would be the effective hog and deer range and would it stabilize UW 220gr hard cast?

SHOULD I DO IT? I want as many opinions as possible

Thanks my fellow 10mm nuts-Johnny

The LS sounds great why get rid of it because you want to scratch an itch for something different?

Save buy the 26 later after you saved for it. The LS is the best hunting 10mm around more versatile than the 26.

What about a springfield "linkless" 1911 in 10mm I have an offer on that as well. My concerns with that is Im pretty sure it has a unramped barrel giving it poor case support and I like shooting supppppper hot hand loads

Unsupported is not good it obviously will not allow the best from your 10.

The LS you describe seems like a really nice gun and you want to get rid of it?

Just bored with it or what?

Like I said nothing wrong with ADDING a compact to the stable but keep the LS.

the ls is just bulky when working on the ranch or rifle hunting. I think its more of a holster issue. I currently carry it in an OSTWB holster in the 9-9:30 position. We do a lot of hunting from vehicles and getting in and out is the issue. I want one of those Diamond D chest rigs but man those are pricey. Im also about to get my CHL but i think im going to go with an XDS and load it with supers when on the ranch. I had a g19 and just really liked the size. But Im not going to trade the LS unless I get an offer for a supported 1911in 10 then I can carry it and hunt. I really really like the Deltas but do to lack of case support it will be an addition down the road not a trade. It was actually the first 10 I shot. Wish the made them in black still.

I carry a Gen 4 model 21 for SD CCW and I am sending it to a Glock custom house to have the grip reworked and cut the grip for compact mags. Stippling along with high grip option, also rounding the trigger guard, reduce the diameter and give the frame the 1911 style.  The most interference is from the longer grip so these above mods will alleviate that issue and still give me plenty capacity with model 30 mags. It also keeps the longer sight plane for good accuracy and heavier slide to reduce recoil.  So in essence I will have the best of both worlds in one package.

My point being you have options and can still have your cake and eat it too.

My opinion...Get the G29! I have both G20 and G29 and believe it or not, I'm more accurate with my G29! (probably due to my grip) I love it though. It's still a fat little bastard, but easier to carry than a G20. I have a threaded Storm Lake barrel on order for mine, so I can get another 3/4 of an inch of bbl length and to give it that "tacti-cool" look. You'll want to keep some G20 mags on hand since they will work in the G29...just add one of the mag spacers. Most of the time I have a G20 15rd mag in my G29. The pearce grip extensions are a must for the factory 10rd G29 mags too. They give you a full grip to better hang on to the little beast!
FYI...I was actually planning on taking my G29 on my deer hunt this year, instead of my G20. I couldn't go though, due to some medical issues >:(
Welp, hope I was of some help to you!

I was just having this type conversation a day ago. While at the range talking with folks, we got into the "Man, I wish I still had that gun!" talk. I have traded off, or sold to get another, some real fine pistols, and rifles that I wish I still had!! Don't do it! There was a reason (probably a good one) that you got the 20LS in the first place. Just remember that. Regret sucks!

Military shoulder rigs are inexpensive...and well worth it.
Look up "Tanker Rig" if you prefer leather...
the fabric ones are way cheaper tho...

and NO, DO NOT TRADE IT!!  You will regret it.

Your Glock 20 Long Slide sounds like a great hunting handgun & GREAT handgun to have working / living on a ranch.  It's all in how you carry it, personally I would find a holster set up that would work for you.
Recently I shot a Glock 20 & Glock 29 side by side with 3 different types of ammo.  The G20 handled them all with ease & they were comfortable for me to shoot.
However with the G29 when I shot a fairly mild 200 grn load, the gun started to move around in my hand noticably.  My hands are large (I wear an XL size glove), the mags had grip extenders & I have been shooting magnum handguns for many years.
My point is, even though the G29 would obviously be easier to carry, I think you'd be disapointed in your ability to shoot it as well as the G20 long slide version you have now - especially when shooting HOT loads in the G29.

Bottom line, Keep the G20LS & find a holster set up that will work well for you first.  Then if you still want to, save up and get the G29.

Much as I like my G29's (I have 2 of them), I wouldn't want to get rid of my G20 and only have the G29, even though I do have a KKM 4.6" barrel for the 29, so it shoots my hot loads the same velocity as the G20.  I admit that the 29 is much preferable for EDC(I never even know I have it on most of the time) but my general philosophy has been to just add another gun rather than trade.  One of these days you might get one of the Double D outfits and then you will be glad you still have the G20.  I've been thinking I might get a 6" KKM barrel for my 20 and then I would definitely want the Double D chest holster.  I think you need one of each!

I have thought about getting a g29sf or gen 4 for my permit and ditching the g20.  Would replace my g19 and 20 on the permit with it and allow me to add a really small gun like a .380.

That way i'd have an lcp, xds 9mm and g29.  For hiking id put the 4.6" barrel from lone wolf in and heavier spring with aome doubletap wfngc!

Right now im glock 26/19/20 on my permit.  Cant change it for another year but im leaning to xds, 19 and 20.

In reality for concealed carry use the xds would be my everyday carry and the 19 for cooler days when I can wear more clothes.

Fyi in retarded california have to list each daggone gun and only get 3 and local sheriff wont let you change except on permit renewals every two years!

mag360,

What County?   I carry on Retired LEO Creds but my wife carries on a CCW, here you can change what is on your permit anytime.  You just have to take the new add on in for inspection, to verify Serial #.
