Which Dan Wesson 10mm to buy

New here and new to 10mm but been an avid shooter for 50 years. Trying to decide which DW 10mm to buy. Leaning towards the Kodiak but I'm not recoil sensitive and am not sure about the 6" barrel. Am looking at a Specialist in 5" too. Any thoughts from actual owners? Thanks

I?ve got a specialist. Very nice 1911. I had to change the safety out because my hand is too big for the ambi paddle.
Have a six inch ten also. I really like it as well but I don?t carry it as much as the five inch. It?s my spring turkey gun. Wish my state would ok it for big game

     My son has a DW Bruin that he uses for chasing bears here in the Alleghenies and between us we have a "few" other DW 1911s. The Bruin has been a great pistol; accurate and reliable even with 200gr. RNFP/GC hard cast lead bullets.  All our DWs are nicely detailed and run 100%. The 6" Bruin is easy to shoot with low recoil and the extra inch of sight radius is nice to have.  Our experience has been that the 1" extra barrel length has little affect on velocity.

Like you I got into the 10mm game late...but as usual jumped in in a big way...  Once the dust settled five were left...
Glock 40/4 6" & 9"
SIG Nightmare Carry with Fusion 10mm barrel 4.25"
Kimber Stainless Target II 5"
Kimber Stainless Target Longslide 6"
PARA-USA Elite LS Hunter 6"
...and one revolver...GP-100 MC. 4"

As to 5" vs 6",...what is it going to be for... Concealed carry, hunting, target shooting, woods bumming...just plinking...

If all of the above get the 5...  If it isn't going to be carried much the 6...

If you have not shot a 10mm with full 180-200 grain loads at 1200+ fps I would suggest you try before you buy....they are a little snappy...and while still snappy from a 6" really quite fun to shoot.

Just came back from the range testing some new loads...decided that 200s at 1225 from the SIG were just a little much for the 70 year old wrist...mid-1100s was much more pleasant and I doubt anything shot with them will know the difference...

I own both the Dan Wesson Bruin and the Kodiak. I like them both but for different reasons. They are both well built and would serve you well. The Kodiak does have less felt recoil due to its heavier weight but I wouldn't use that as a reason to buy one over the other. I would buy whichever pistol has the features you like most. I won't be parting with either one of them.

     Shooting our sons' Bruin and our Guncrafter 5" gun side by side with the same loads it seems the Bruin is a softer shooting pistol. We have a 6" bbl for our GI gun also and when it is installed the recoil is the same and the extra inch of barrel does not increase the veloctiy significantly.

My DW 10mm onwned guns - RAZORBACK, older but nice VBOB, new VBOB, VALOR and just bought a SPECIALIST.

I'd love to add a KODIAK to my collection in the near future.

My SPECIALIST is great, but so is my VALOR.

To me, a 5" is a more rounded option. Good for everything. I can hit a 5" steel plate from a bench at an actual 85 yrds 9 times out of 10 with my VALOR. Have not done much with my SPECIALIST except to run 250 rnds of S&B through it for break in.

DW's can be hard to find. My dealer could not get any through his suppliers. I bought mine on Gun Broker. Best price, free 2 day shipping, responded fast to questions and had it on the way the same day as I paid.

I have a Colt Delta Elite, a EAA Tangfolio Match and a Dan Wesson Razorback.   Dan Wesson Razorback is my go to pistol.

I had a new Dan Wesson Pointman 7 10mm. Extremely accurate AND the most unreliable 10mm I have ever owned. Back to the factory twice, then to two diff smiths.FTF and FTE constantly.
Upgraded spring, mags, everything. Junk. Would never look at another. Factory help was non-existant.

The Dan Wesson Razorback (when Bob Serva was running the company) is/was the best pistol that Bob and the gang ever produced. bar none! Match barrel/bushing, tight as a tick and accurate to a fault. (I have one of the first 150 manufactured.) The pistol has four magazines serial numbered to match the handgun. The piece was made to my personal specifications.

It is one of a kind.
