Unfortunately I think prices are going to have to really spike to get this mess to slow down. We are seeing the same thing in real estate here right now houses are going 10-15 percent above asking price with in 4-5 hours after listing.

You can't fix stupid but you can numb it for a while with a 2X4

My oldest daughter and her husband bought a house last year.  They offered 10% above every time they offered and still had seven offers rejected before they finally got a home.  They were pre-approved for 50% more loan than the homes they were looking at.  By-and-large they were loosing out to real-estate speculators that had cash and were going to put lipstick on the pig and flip it.  They did finally get a home and moved in just before Christmas.

We stopped by for a visit last week.  My son-in-law was just getting back from the local big box lumber store.  He had half a dozen sheets of OSB and a few dozen 2X4X8', as well as a box or two of nails.  Told me it cost him $700. Lumber is nuts right now.

I work in the heating and air trade. Our sheet metal for ductwork went up 18% the 1st April and they're telling us to expect it to go up another 12% in May.

No kidding! I had to buy a 3/4" sheet of plywood at Home Depot a couple of days ago. $52!!! for ordinary, construction grade plywood. $58 for sanded. There's some profiteering going on.

Funny you mention that I drove by a rail yard today and saw a stack of ties they had pulled out. Wondering if they would miss a few.  :))
