A 9" barrel in my 7" slide/barreled IAI Javalina.

I have often wondered what an extra two inches of added barrel length in my 1991 IAI Javalina would perform. I, for one, tend to think that it would enhance the power factor of a 1200 fps/200-grain by a good 30 fps per extra inch over a standard 5" pistol barrel.

An added 120 fps would theoretically translate to 1320 fps and churn out about 774 foot-pounds of energy at the muzzle. This would make a great pig/ black bear setup. The extra energy should prove devastating when the piece is used for its intended purpose. 8)

Opinions?

I have an 8" barrel in my 45 ACP Hardballer Longslide, but I haven't chrono'd it.  A 9" barrel is going to stick out two inches past the slide and look a bit goofy, but it wouldn't stop me.

It will look similar to this pic.

Tony,

I really couldn't care less how "ungainly" or "odd" the pistol looks. Accuracy, coupled with terminal ballistics, is what matters. Aside from that, the killing power of a tighter "match" barrel and enhanced performance is what puts meat on the table, isn't it?
