It appears that some, if not all firearm manufacturers are having a tough time keeping up with the demand, a friend has been calling / searching online for a Sig P220 Hunter 10mm like I will be picking up  on Friday. Every shop in the twin cities area that he has contacted has told him it could be 2 - 6 months, and will not even quote him a price. As for online options, there are some, but the prices are high, and he would prefer to buy locally

Yeah...I saw an add yesterday for  Springfield XD 9mm Defender series being offered as a "Deal" at the MSRP.

There really aren't a lot of deals to be had right now as far as I can tell.  Combination of pandemic panic buys by former anti-gun crowd as well as stock up pre-election is making this an amazing storm.  Ammo, reloading components and guns are all going to be on the can't find/high priced list for a while.

I was approached on Sunday by some neighbors.  Nice folks, lived back east on the eastern seaboard for most of their life.  We get along with them.  They were the last people I know that I ever thought would ask for gun advice.  But they are ready to go all in.  Starting with a couple of handguns for each of them, they have also signed up for my next CFP class, they want some additional range and tactics training, they want to know about modern sporting rifles for home defense.  And they readily admit that they never thought they would be "pro-gun".

For sure. I think many first time gun owners are going into shops looking for something in particular, and end up leaving with something totally different if the original model was sold out. Ok fine, just give me something, Lol

Midway USA currently only has 23 autoloading pistols in calibers other than 22 LR in stock.  The cheapest is $700, and you are over $1,000 by #8.  Most of the guns in serious calibers are high end 1911's.

Oh...and they have nothing in 40 S&W or 38 Super.

Glad I don't buy many guns!

I tell all first-time gun owners to go to a pawn shop and find a double-barrel .12 gauge for a couple hundred bucks, then buy a hacksaw, miter box, and 10" bastard file. Cut the barrels down to 19", dress them nice, and shoot up a couple boxes of dove loads to get used to it. Put a inexpensive shell carrier on the butt stock loaded with whatever buckshot is available and tie on a lanyard so you can hang it from a coat hook. If they're mechanically inclined they can move the bead sight to the new location. Tape on a flashlight if so desired.

That right there is home defense perfection for less than $300, and it's a better set-up for a new shooter than anything else I've ever seen. I've found my cut-down double .12 to be one of the most versatile and reliable and deadly weapons I own, and despite owning AR's and a dozen handguns and a Banshee tricked out with lights and lasers and a holographic sight, that scattergun still hangs by my bedside.
