Wanted to try the Xtreme bullets line of X-Def Bullets. They are noticably similar to the gold dot line with the exception of the hollow point cavity depth. These have a deeper cavity than Speer's, and the bullet itself is slightly longer at .580".

Was out with a friend and opted to bring some water jugs and a couple of test loads. Used a slightly reduced loading of 6.2gr autocomp with federal brass and a federal small pistol primer at 1.117" overall length.

I did not chronograph these today, but the factory +p from Xtreme is only rated at 1125fps and expands to around .6" caliber.

This round showed maximum upset, penetrated to the second jug and did not exit.

I would imagine these aren't as robust as the Speer offering, and for future loads will keep these around the 1200fps mark. Interesting to note the gold dot is in the middle of these just like Speer's 🤔

That is a Gold Dot bullet, many ammo or bullet sellers can't use the term Gold Dot when selling their products.

Would for sure get the job done if that horrible situation were to occur

These are Xtreme bullets own defensive line. Made in house by freedom munitions. They are very similar. Both loaded and components can be purchased at Xtreme bullets.

Here's a quick write up on them

Well ain't that interesting!   :o
It is, had been trying to get some for testing but with the current situation they were out until a few days ago. They are almost a direct copy [emoji44].

The 124gr X-Def has the cavity depth of say the 147gr gold dot. Very deep, which allows for more expansion.

The expanded bullet I posted at the largest was 1.203" in diameter. I would say it's best to keep velocities modest.

This is a very promising development!
Same or better performance than Gold Dot at 2/3 the cost.
Xtreme site shows these in quantities of 100, hope they plan on selling bulk quantities of 1000.
They also show a 45 230gr, definitely want to test those.

My thoughts on this are in line with yours. So far I'm liking the performance and price point. I am impatiently waiting for the 45 version to come back into stock.

I hope they offer larger quantities than the 100 count but I can deal if need be.

Also, in their loaded ammunition page for this bullet style, they list other weights in 9mm as well. I'd be really interested in their 9mm 147gr load too. But they list 115gr, 124gr, 135gr and the 147gr as factory loaded ammunition.

So to post an update, was able to get out today and test the X-Def in a platform I've been wanting to try.

After initial testing, with the hollow point cavity being deep and fairly large, coupled with the factory freedom munitions loading being a little anemic for a plus p load at 1140fps, I surmised these would be good performers from a sub compact gun if the velocity was good. With the 6.3gr BE-86, it out me right where I wanted to be, around the original factory specs.

So I Picked up a Glock 43 yesterday, and using the 124gr X-Def Bullet, 6.3gr BE-86, Winchester brass, cci small pistol primers, and a overall length of 1.110" I got some good chronograph data and a recovered bullet from my clear ballistics gel block.

1139
1147
1152
1158
1157

19fps spread
Fired from a 3.39" Glock 43

Recovered bullet at it's widest point was .659"
Bullet penetrated 12.125" in clear ballistics gel.
