Is it just my XDm 3.8 compact 9, or are all XD / XDm factory triggers pretty worthless? It sounds like Powder River Precision offers one of the better aftermarket XDm options, but am continuing to research it
Thanks

I've owned an XD subcompact in 9mm, an XDM full size in 9mm and 45 and an XDM 3.8 in 9mm and 45. I thought the factory Springfield triggers were all better than their Glock counterparts. I installed Powder River Precision triggers in all of them. The I sold the XD 9mm and both 45s. I left the Powder River Precision trigger in the full size 9mm but removed the one from the 3.8 inch 9mm. I think it's too light for a carry pistol.

If you install a Powder River Precision trigger in your 9mm, be sure to test it in cold weather unless you live in a perpetually warm climate. I installed one in a buddy's XDM 9mm and he left it in his truck during the winter while attending church. He left church and met me at the indoor shooting range. His pistol would not fire until it warmed up. Puzzled, I brought it back home and removed a little more material from the trigger overtravel stop. I then put all five of my Springfields in the back of my truck and left them overnight. Don't recall the exact temps but it was below zero degrees. IIR none of them would dry fire after the cold soak. So, I removed more material from their trigger overtravel stops and cold soaked em again. This time, they all dry fired as they should. The moral of the story is to remove a little more material from the trigger overtravel stop than you need to dry fire the pistol indoors.

That's interesting info Sep. Thanks for posting that. Particularly since I just ordered an 4.5" XDM 10mm. Powder River Precision seems to be the only option, so far, for trigger upgrades. After doing my research, that was my backup plan if I don't like the trigger on this gun. Since I live in MI, I'll may have to put it in the freezer overnight and see if it'll fire.

Also noticed on the PRP website that some XD models have their triggers in them from the factory. It wasn't particularly clear to me which ones and Springfield makes no mention of this that I could find. I'm wondering if this is the cause for some people loving the triggers that came from the factory and others not so much?

Thanks guys, considering I live in MN, this is critical info to know

Think I will contact PRP to get their take on this. It's hard to imagine they don't know about this, as well as addressing it. This seems like a huge liability for the company to me

Well, I emailed PRP. They told me what I already surmised, but am waiting on their fix to the issue

The frame expands and contracts with temperature. If the over travel is set too tight it can prevent the trigger from traveling far enough to release the striker in colder temperatures.

Regarding the XDM triggers it kept me from getting one when they first came out. However looked at one last week the trigger was much improved still a long reset and take up but much smother and lighter that the first one I looked at. Now I just have to convince the wife I need one.

You can't fix stupid but you can numb it for a while with a 2X4
