Going to work up a load for the Montana Bullet Works Wide Flat Nose 200 grn. bullet on top of AA No. 9 . Will be shooting it in a Springfield XD(M) 4.5" .  I have read where some have had to seat the bullet deeper in order for it to feed right or even fully load the magazine in Glocks but don't know about the Springfield.  I read where DoubleTap when to an COL of 1.242 with what looks like a similar bullet. Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has loaded this bullet.

Hello Kutch, yes the Wide Flat Nose bullets can present issues those over 0.300" MEPLAT.
One thing that can happen is the bullets seated long can drag on the interior of some magazines.
Another issue is the tipping angle as the cartridge is pushed forward to tip up and into the chamber as it leaves the magazine.

See these two illustrations;
Tipping angles as it relates to chamber entrance

Hutch, I am loading that very same bullet (Hi-tek coated)  over 8.0 gr of Longshot for my XDM 10 4.5 at a COAL of 1.23 and it runs great!  I'm averaging  1240 FPS. No real velocity gain from loading 8.2 grains so I am sticking with 8.0 for now.

I arrived at the COAL of 1.23 because this was posted on the Montana Bullet Works site regarding the 200 gr WFN bullet:

"From a customer–we couldn't have said it any better: At first they wouldn't feed in my glock 20 with KKM barrel. Additionally, the wide meplat rubs the side of the magazine when you stuff 12 or so in there at SAAMI length. After some experimentation, I found they function flawlessly at about 1.22-1.23" overall  length. Of course this is slightly deeper than recommended for the 10mm, but working up from a starting load slowly gave me no issues. Brinn"

Thanks 4given, Most books seem to list the lower end of COL as 1.240 but it seems to need to be less than that for the WNFP.

You are welcome. I think seating the bullet a little deeper is raising the pressure enough in my load to reach the 1240 fps mark.  Of course we need to work up slowly.

I might try Power Pistol next. I would try AA #9 but I don't have any on hand.

Montana has another bullet with a 0.300" meplat that will allow you to load a little longer. I'm at 1.245 right now and it feeds perfectly through the glocks.

Room for MOAR POWDER!!!!!

AA#9 needs the room.

I'm running the Montana Bullet Works WFNPB at 1.24. It is a tight fit in the magazine but it functions in my STI Perfect 10, Dan Wesson Bruin and Glock G40.  SAAMI specs for 10mm COAL run 1-240-1.260 and everything I have read warns pressure will increase if you seat deeper than 1.24 but as long as you work up the load you should be fine. I only load 10 rounds in the STI and Glock magazines too. Don't recall trying to fill them to capacity. You'll just have to experiment with your pistol and see what COAL works for you.

I load DTs WFNGC bullet(Beartooth?) with a nice change of Accurate 9. The ideal length for both my Kimber and Tangfolio Hunter is at 1.244. No issues feeding (they do if I seat them longer than 1.245) and accuracy is great! They average 1263fps in the 5" Kimber. The WFN hardcast bullets are great!! Thinking of trying the Cutting Edge 190, but would want to push it around 1300fps. Not sure if that's possible with the length and increased bearing surface. They would look pretty in nickel Starline brass.

Can't say about your gun. I have an LBT mold that looks to be identical to the MBW LBT offering. I load mine to 1.255" for my Glock. It is a true statement that I cannot get 15 rounds into my magazine. But i don't mind a little less weight to carry when I'm in the hills.

Mine are also charged with No. 9 powder. My mold was cut with one GC cavity and 3 PB. The GC weighs 208 gr fully dressed and the PB is 201. Both are powder coated. So charge weights are different for the two. Both run over 1200 fps in the G20.

I ended up loading the 200 grain WFNGC from MBW on top of 12.8 grains of No. 9 with a COL of 1.250. Functioned just fine in my XDM and I had no problem loading a full magazine at 1.250 or 1.255.
