Price point on handguns

I have noticed that thre is a price point which is about 500-650 that if the gun is in that range or less it sells. If it is more it has slow sales. Here is the reason. If you buy a gun for the price point or below you can sell it and come close to or break even. If you have a custom Nighthawk that sells for 3400 you are the proud owner unless you are willing to take a huge loss to sell it. It is economics. Most shooters can afford the 500 gun. Very few can afford the 1000 and up handguns. I have been there and done that so now for me Glock is my top price point. Hi cap,works and coat is reasonable and you can sell it any day of the week. Try selling you 1300 Colt Delta,you may sell it but if you need money in a hurry you will take a loss.Right now in this political enviroment and economy but hi cap mags if you can find them at factory price and ammo if you can get it reasonable. You will be able to trade the mags and ammo for a gun if you need to. As much as I hate to say this sometime in our lifetime they will ban the hi caps and well ammo is already about 500% overpriced. You can find ammo at old prices esecially for the 10mm but you have to work at it and you have to buy it when you find it. do not hesitate or it will be in somebodies elses safe.

Maybe I am in la-la land, but I don't see them banning hi-caps.  If they were, there would still be huge momentum to do so.  But that momentum is fading fast.

In my lifetime...That is a long window to guess what is going to happen.

But, we as a group have to learn to play the political game.  We need to stop saying "NO" and start saying "IF".  Golden opportunity for us to say yes to universal background checks, then get them so they run like today, only allowing citizens to call NCIS and pay $10 and run one.  In exchange, we want supressors, short barreled rifles and shotguns off the NFA and we want tax stamps again for machine guns.

Yeah, we don't cave on hi-capacity magazines, but if we think we can probably find a new and reasonable compromise where we really don't trade much or anything meaningful, and get something meaningful back.

Plus we no longer look like "cold, dead hands" wackos (even if we are).

I agree though, about the economics of gun sales.  Same is true for selling cars.  You can move a car privately pretty easy under $2000.  But get much over that and it dries up fast.

RRMan03, I hear what you're saying as I have been in this 10mm gun game since earlier years.  The "Plastic Fantastic" or "Tupperware" guns came along an sort of changed the industry.  Here they provided a gun capable of holding more ammo but the weight was still near that of a full size all metal gun...The reliability of them and the price point made them what they are today!

I still have a fondness for the real steel guns and their strength...the sad part is their parts are getting hard to come by or non existent for some.

Yes, the most copied guns the 1911's, I feel are way over priced!  They are a copy that can be cranked out on a CNC machine by almost anyone and I don't care how much spit and polish they apply...it is still a 1911.  Heck, look at the price point of the Armscor 10mm (1911 clone) at $600, I don't see another $600 to $2000+ making it shiny and slick!  Give me a break!  All of mine are shooters even though some are rare items.

Another thing I think about is if your gun is stolen, lost or damaged by extreme conditions. (hunting, fishing or back woods trails)

Generally I do see that being the case RRMan03, except for what sqlbullet mentioned;

I don't think you're in la-la land as I feel like I've noticed the same.  Either that or we're both in la-la land. :P
Gun Control?  Oh yes, the theory that becoming a victim is somehow morally superior to defending yourself & your family.  Makes perfect sense.
