A 90gr bullet in the 10mm.....I don't know about that one. I understand the velocity is up to around 1780'ps but is there enough rearward inertia to make all 10mms run with out issues? Considering I've been fighting a long slide that throws brass into orbit, with all of the heavier springs and flat bottom firing pin stop, I doubt it has enough pop to move the slide at all. While I like the concept of the shape of the bullet, I think for me, at least, I'll stick with the Lehigh 140gr of the same profile. I haven't had much luck with a fragmenting bullet anyway in any caliber. While it might work in some 10mms, I highly doubt I'd want to trust it's reliability with my life as a defensive round. Too many if's and questions about it. For me to carry it, it's unquestionably reliable or it stays home. Yeah, I'm one of those guys that has a double armload of pistols but only a select few that I will carry.

I don't blame you.

I am more interested in this type of bullet because when I retire form LE I won't be able to legally carry hollowpoints any longer (New Jersey).

5pins

Isn't the Hornady Critical Duty legal in NJ?

Recently noticed an article referencing New Jersey's new law which among other things prohibited off duty police from carrying firearms   :o.....  Unbelievable!!
After retirement if you want, hopefully you'll have the opportunity to consider more sane surroundings.  Sincerely not trying to be insulting; it's just hard to believe sometimes we're still talking about the same country.

Many people believe it is.. But if you read the statute....No.

I won't take my chances with an anti-LE prosecutor who wishes to make a name for himself.

It's getting worse here. I would like to retire out of state. I do have family here though.

Gotta see where the kids end up.

Hey Trapper, What about UW's 150 Grain Xtreme Hunter? depending on the penetration, this could be an option

Trapper6L

I don't know the difference between the 140gr Penetrator and the 150gr Hunter as the bullets look identical to me. I'm looking at real 140 bullets vs looking at pics of the 150 so there there could easily be a difference I can't see. The 140 out of the Baby Eagle 40SW that is a carry gun is match accurate at 25 yds. It makes a mess on a coyote at about 15 yds. It's suppose to be barrier blind so I'm assuming that a denim jacket is not going to effect performance or even drywall for that matter. As we say down along the border, if you can shoot and hit between the nipples, that's all that needs to happen. Out of my 10mm Long Slide, the 140's shoot about 2" groups. But it will never be a carry gun-too heavy. For 4949shooter, considering the laws, I doubt I'd carry any tricky ammo at all. You might end up in more trouble than the perp you shot.

4949shooter, we always have room for folks like you here in Texas. LOTS of open country if you want to get away from people. Have lots of large towns with more people than you really want to see. If you can stand the heat, it's as close to heaven as you'll get without dying. Just leave the whackos back in Jersey. We are a castle doctrine State and your gun rights are guaranteed by our States Constitution. Texas is generally gun friendly but you have the sickos around Houston that are in power at the moment and things are not as they should be. A Texan will avoid Houston at all costs. It's commonly referred to as the asshole of Texas as that's where all the crap is to give you a clue. Maybe you need to pay visit. LOTS to see here.

Kenk

Yep, the "tricky ammo" thing is certainly something to consider

Kenk

This is a great question for the experts. Is there a good hollow point alternative while staying away from the "tricky ammo" as Trapper put it? I could be wrong, but if it a clean / justified shoot, I don't know that it would be an issue, however I wouldn't want to give the PA any advantage.
Thanks

Ken

Thanks for the invite Trapper.

I've been to Texas once on a coyote hunt....about an hour north of Dallas / Fort Worth airport. The people were friendly and the scenery was great.
