Hello! As the title says, I and a newb to the 10mm cartridge, and would like your guidance on which new polymer pistol to buy.  Glock is absolutely not an option. The ergos on those have never worked for me.  This gun will be primarily a woods gun, and would need to defend against black bears or wild hogs, etc.  It wouldn't be fired all that much, but would run full tilt loads exclusively.  I think I have my choices narrowed down to the following EAA Witness full size, P/N 999061, EAA Witness P Match PRO P/N 600647, or the Grand Power P40 in 10mm.  I have heard stories of EAA pistols with cracked frames and slides, but I think all of those issues have been addressed. Factory support is horrid, as I understand.  I know I would likely want to install a Henning guide rod & recoil spring to handle the full power loads. Regarding the Grand Power, it seems you get one that works, or you don't. I know nothing about any factory support, or what upgraded parts would be needed to increase longevity in this pistol.  As for availability, the standard full sized EAAs seem to be easily available right now.  The P-Match and Grand Power, not so much.  Also, the GP seems to be the most expensive of the three, and the standard EAA seems a bargain @ ~$450 or so.

So, which of these pistols would you recommend for my intended purpose? And why?

Thank you for you input!!!

Wait for the XD.
Hahaha, life is too short to wait.

I am one of the ones with a perfectly operating GP P40. It is a thing of beauty. I did have the problem early on with the mags dropping under heavy load but after a trip to a gunsmith everything has gone well. It did take me time to find night sights but now that too is resolved. I'm very happy with the gun. I have no personal experience with the Witness line but others on here do.

Good luck!

Well, it appears they announced it as being almost ready a year ago.  When do you think we will see it, nd will there be teething problems?

EAA seems like a better option at the present time. I think with Springfield taking so long, it will be right out of the box.

Witness all the way.

Factory support is great!  Unfortunately, they don't have factory support in the US and you have to get support from the importer, EAA, which sucks.

But, they guns are well supported in this forum and on several others.  They guns usually run, and the issues you mention never impacted the poly guns that I know of.

Thanks for the input, guys.  I ordered a Full sized poly Tanfoglio yesterday. Model 999061 to be precise.  There are a couple good reviews of the pistol online, so I am sure it will meet my needs perfectly.  My first 10mm!  Now to start looking for that Bren Ten! LOL!!!

Solid gun!  In fact, if I were not sworn off buying new guns for a while this would be on my short list.

And do you handload? If you want the full power 10mm loads you are best off handloading for them.

Nope. No reloading equipment here. Planning on running something from Buffalo Bore or similar.
