Has anyone done any expansion / other testing to compare Underwood's 155 Grain XTP with their 155 Grain Bonded Jacketed Hollow Point (Speer) I have used both for Whitetail hunting and both perform well. As of late I've bumped it up to using Underwood's 180gr XTP. I think either would qualify as a great carry rd.
Thanks

Haven't tried the UW 155xtp...
Have hunted medium sized game (deer & wild hog) with the UW 180gr xtp with effective results.

Your looking first hand comparison of the two 155gr UW loads and hopefully someone else can provide.  I'd like to know more about your hunting experience with the 155gr Speer...

I like the loading but many different views about the 155gr Speer when juiced up to max velocities and its ability not ot over expand and penetrate too shallowly.  I did my own water jug test with manny of my favorite UW 10mm loads and the 155gr Soeer only penetrated 2...  Captured the bullet in the 2nd jug and it looked like a spider, expanded to size of a quarter.  Water jugs and game animals are very different media acknowledged.  (By the way, the 180gr UW xtp was recovered in 4th jug in my test).
Please share details of your hunting experience with both 10mm 155gr projectiles.

Neither of the 155's were through and through, but both doe's didn't go far, not huge deer by any stretch, 175-200 lb's. I will stick with UW's 180 or 200 gr for future hunts, I'm sure either of 155's would  would neutralize a two legged threat just fine with correct shot placement, as the 155 XTP is one of my carry loads

Thanks for the info.

175 to 200lbs doe are pretty dang big by Texas Whitetail standards.

Hey Rojo, so what is the average doe size there? They can get pretty big in MN

Rojo27

We're talking wild free range Whitetail .....  A nice, average, mature doe will run around 140 or 150lbs...Seen them up in that 175lbs and up rage but it's not common and requires the right circumstances.  A muture buck 200lbs to 225lbs would be a very nice animal here.

We also have Mule Deer in certain areas in the state and they get significantly bigger.

The reason for the free range qualifier...  Big spread high fence ranches are big business here.  After putting them up, indigenous deer are eliminated and replenished with prime selected geneticly desired stock with feed programs to optimize size & rack characteristics.  Once the heard is ready, hunters pay big $$ for privelege of getting a "trophy"....  Personally, not a big fan but it's private property and that's how it works.  Certainly some public lands here but generally avoid hunting those as being mistakenly shot by bozo the idiot not appealing.  Most often hunting lease is best way to go here...  Where an individual or a group lease hunting privileges from a rancher or landowner.  We coordinate who is hunting where to stay away from each other.

I haven't tried the Uw 10mm 155 XTP but I have the Uw 40sw 155 XTP which is a very interesting load. Rated at 1300 fps that report like a Magnum and more of a hard push rather than a snap.

I felt that this 40sw load is great for 2 legged threats.
How powerful is 10mm? Well, see those craters on the moon?
