For the guys that own Smith 10xx guns....how are they holding up over the years?

I am thinking about picking one upon Gunbroker, or elsewhere, but am concerned about the lack of parts availability. I see there are no more magazines available on Midway.

Thanks,

Most of the 10mm Smith and Wesson were not shot a bunch unless they were law enforcement guns and even then that was short lived.  They remain durable and are very strong, the weak parts are the trigger play spring and the side plate which can be damaged with grip removal / reinstall.   Springs are still available from Wolff for most of the gun.
However parts are no longer stocked or made from S&W...  :(

Mine see less action these days, but I do bring a few out to play from time to time...  ;D

Thank you Shadow. Might buy something else in all steel first...then a 1006.

Try one of the elite series from EAA if you haven't already. Perhaps a Witness Stock 1 or 2. They can be found for around $800, parts are readily available, 14 round mags. They run flawlessly. Honestly like the Witness Stock better than my 1006. Less bulky and more comfortable in the hand.

The 4 I own all run flawlessly. Many thousands of rounds through them. I install Hogue grips for a much better feel . I love them .

I will third that! Many options in 10mm and all run great! That new Stock I looks excellent and the Stock II/III has been well accepted.

I'll have to shoot one. Thanks

I'm an avid S&W collector and a fan of their 3rd Gen autos. I was an Armorer for my Agency when we carried 5903's.
We were like the old Maytag Repairman commercials....NOTHING to do. Nothing ever broke!  The 1000 series is the same.

I've got a 1006, a 1076 and a 1026. The first 2 are my favorites.

Springs and some small parts still available. But MAGAZINES are an issue. Not out of the ordinary to see clean/new mags sell for a hundred dollars.
Even old mags are bringing 60-70 bucks.   I have a dozen or so for three guns, so I'm OK.  But mags...not wear/breakage, is in my opinion THE issue with the 1000 series Smiths.

This is good to know thanks.

I was issued a 1006 back in the late 80's and carried it for several years. Attended a bunch of training, S&W armorer school, FLETC FIRTP,  had access to lotsa ammo.
Towards the end the frame on mine was peening where the barrel extension makes contact to cause it to drop down and unlock.  One other instructor's gun was beginning to show slightly the same wear but none of the normal users that I could find had any.
After the armorer school I purchased a set of suggested replacement parts and I believe the only part I replaced was a guide rod that got damaged.
They were excellent guns.  One instructor at the State Police Academy confessed he liked our guys attending so he could "inspect" their guns and test fire them because he'd never seen pistols as accurate as the 1006.

Thanks. Were the guns showing wear still functioning properly?

Sorry, yes they were all 100% reliable and still accurate.  We had some user related issues but the guns were solid. I didn't buy mine due to money scarcity (wife, two kids, two cars, lil baby house mortgage) but wish I had.
