1911 10mm?

So, I admit it, I've been thinking about a 1911 in 10mm, mainly because of the Ruger offering. Need some of your opinions though. Given the similar prices, would you go for the 8+1 Ruger or a double stack such as the RIA 1911? It doesn't take much to swap magazines, so I'm thinking a double stack may be over rated unless you're in some serious shit. My Tanfo's are double stacks, but they still feel slim enough. Decisions decisions....

Before downsizing my collection I had a Kimber Eclipse II.   Great pistol, reliable.   Wouldn't think twice about buying another one.  I used standard .45 acp magazines from Checkmate, Wilson Combat and others for my 10mm cartridges - let my magazines pull double duty in the Kimber and in the Springfield.   Ran like a champ.   Fit and finish were awesome.  Thousands and thousands of rounds and the internals still looked great!   I had purchased a Springfield Loaded in .45 acp around the same time and several of the internals were starting to chip well below the round count I had on the Kimber.

It did have problem when I first got it of premature slide lock about 1/2 way through a magazine.   5 minutes and small file permanently took care of that.   I've heard this same complaint from several other 1911 owners over the years.

They also make a black parkerized??? one that is significantly less.   Can't remember the model right now.  More of a combat 1911 than a target model.

I also own a Stock III, and love the grip size.   Just feels right in the hand.   That being said, for 1911's I prefer the single stack arrangement.

I have never owned nor shot a RIA.   I was heavily considering them when I bought my Kimber.   But after reading all the reviews online and member experiences here, I decided - at least for myself - that I would stay away from them.   My understanding is that they do have excellent customer service.   Just wasn't something I wanted to take on at that time.

Hmmm ...

The correct answer is both!

I'd grab up the Ruger first.  I think they're a bit more generous with the spit-and-polish.

Although I favor Armscor to Ruger (3 Rocks v. 0 Rugers), Ruger's 10mm offering presently occupies the "next" position on my 10mm grab list.

Honestly, parkerization is probably my least favored firearm finish flavor.  After the park, you've still gotta live with or custom modify the Magwell since some bozo in the Phillipines cuts the mag tunnel too short so that magwell monstrosity can fit - no big deal if you don't mind a gun that looks unfinished and requires you to modify any aftermarket grip panel to get it to the proper "unfinished" fit level.  This is a non-problem if oversized, practically functionless (the design does not substantially improve reload times) magwells are your cup of tea.I own two double stack Rocks (neither is 10mm, but one does split duty driving a 10mm Mechtech) that were built before that Filipino guy started with the magwell mangling.

I have recently added both a RIA Rock Ultra HC and a Ruger SR1911 to the stable.

I have not made it to the range with either yet.

The RIA is notably "smoother" than the Ruger.  That is not to say the Ruger feels at all like a bad gun.  It is very, very nice.  But the RIA is nicer.  Smoother feel when you rack the slide, the trigger pull is better, the sights are better.

The Ruger is stainless, a big plus in my mind on a carry gun.  But, if you are looking at the HC, I can't imagine this is going to be a carry gun with the huge magwell that RIA puts on their HC guns.

Neither. Do yourself a favor and save up a little more and get something much better like one of these from CZ / Dan Wesson.
