I should be picking up my first 10mm later this week, a Rock Island 2011 Tactical with 4.25 in. barrel.  Are there things I should be thinking about in order to make it run more reliably?  I plan on breaking it in with moderate loads, but would also like to put some "full power" loads on occasion.  Should I polish ramps, upgrade springs, buy quality mags?  If I do, can you point me in the right direction as far as brands, etc.?

Polishing the feed ramps has helped with both my ria 10's. I would install a flat bottom firing pin stop and install a 25# mainsping.  My fs likes kimber and Tripp mags and my ms likes kimber mags.

Are you using the Tripp mags for the 10mm, or the ones for the .45?  Tripp told me both will work... and that the .45 version will sit flush in the mag well.

I am using the 10mm tripp mags my flush mags are kimber 10mm

If it was me I would shoot it a bit and see how it performs before I would start thinking about what I should do to it.  A gun store down here has one.  I am sort of thinking about getting it.

Where is "down here"

As for what to do, run it to start with. If by some oddity it runs perfect, stick with it. if it's having problems, you can reference my thread about how I got mine running properly. Also keep in mind, each of these that I have seen were very tight guns, it may simply need some hot stuff shot through it to "open it up a bit"

Overview

Mainspring and recoil spring
delta elite +10% mag springs
extractor tension adjustment
ejector fitting so that it didn't push the top round down in the mag
polishing of the ramp, extractor, and smoothing of the sharp parts of the barrel hood.

hate to say this, but mine is going back to the factory for the second time for jamming issues. Seems I can't get through mag without stove piping or the slide going three quarters of the way home...I absolutely love the gun when it shoots...hopefully this will fix it for good.

UPDATE:
Well I finally picked up the gun.  It was "packed in oil," but was very nicely finished.  The fit was tight, but everything looked and felt good.  That recoil spring is stiff!  After the customary tear-down to clean her up and re-lube her, I opted to slightly polish the ramp and chamber... just in case.  I also swapped the MSH for a curved G10 version from Hogue.  It looks nicer and is not plastic ;)

Last night I took her to the range, and bought 2 boxes of ammo.  Wow!  That 10mm ammo is expensive!!!  There goes my two-week allowance!
All complaining aside, I'm happy to report that I ran 100 rounds through the Rock without incident!  Praise the Lord! ;)  Both the RIA and Kimber mags functioned perfectly.  What I did notice was the force it was ejecting the brass.  It really send that brass flying.  Additionally it started to mark up the slide with brass just behind the ejection port.  Is this common?

On another note... man, this is a sweet gun.  It aimed nicely.  The trigger was crisp and light, it was very accurate, stacking them right there were I was aiming!  As a Commander-sized gun, it fit my hand perfectly, and wasn't too big.  This was my concern since this will not be my EDC gun, but I will use it as a trail / backup gun when I'm in the woods.  The VZ grips were beautiful, but a little rough for my taste.  Now when I shoot some hotter loads, it may be more of a problem, so I foresee sanding them lightly, just in case.

Overall I was quite impressed with the gun.  Of course the loads were standard mild loads, and I didn't get a chance to test the gun's potential, but I can't wait to try the hotter loads... I guess I'll do that once I financially recover from the last outing.

Mine does the same thing with the brass, even with a 24lb recoil spring. Little brass dots just behind the port. Glad its running well, enjoy it.

My 1911's in 45 do the same thing. Not to worry..

I recently picked up a RIA 10mm also. I put a 20# spring in.  Ive had a few brass marking in the same spot.

The one I shot would throw brass, no joke, 20 ft high and about 2 car lengths back.  I shortened OAL from 1.26 to 1.25 to resolve mag jamming issues (still dealing with them) and it doesn't throw brass as far or high, but still about 20 feet after skipping.
