Yes the lighter the bullet and the heavier the crimp the harder it is to get the projectile to start moving.  The semi autos are easier as they aren't heavily crimped.

When you whack it, look to see if the bullet started to move, once it starts it it continues to move easier with each tap.  I try to keep the puller from bouncing back off the wooden 4"x4"  more like a dead blow hammer.

It is possible to get bullets out with a single rap but, like I mentioned the powder can bounce around and even out of the puller... ???

Good deal, I'll try it your way. Normally it takes several good whacks on a concrete floor to remove the bullet for me.

The endgrain of the wood is softer on the kinetic puller than a concrete floor, or even the reloading table top  :P

I have thought of adding a 12"x12" square of End Grain wood block to my reloading table to have as it is good for hitting against all around, whether it is knocking out pins, carving etc.
It's my DiMMe

Okay, okay, I'll beat it on a piece of wood. The floor is just so convenient....... :))

I have a 10lb hand dumb bell that sits under my loading table and just a few whacks on the end of it pops those heads right out  ;D

Yes, it's easier to smack the crap out of those kinetic puller hammers, to pull bullets!  But if you are wanting to keep the powder and bullet from banging around for measurements, you will want them to drop out the case mouth softly.

The power (especially the fine stuff) can be bounced around and even get out of some pullers or get in the threads and jaw chucks.  The Bullets can be deformed if allowed to hit the bottom of the puller, this changes the nose profiles or even makes the bullet shorter.  Not good if you are trying to take precise measurements!

The reason most pullers are transparent or have viewing windows is to watch for the bullet's movement.  That way you can  tap lightly to have the bullet just drop free.

BTW, trying to remove bullets with a "Gas Check" can leave the check stuck inside the casing.  Do be discouraged, take a small screwdriver and push gently along the outer circumference of the check as to tip it over on its side.  For more stubborn checks, I use the casing off centered in the shell holder with a decapping pin held long or even screwed into a upside down die.  That give control and leverage to tip the check over sideways.

If a check winds up inside a bottleneck rifle casing, you can usually pull it out with a set of forceps...

Good luck and be safe. :D

I have a couple.  A 2009 Colt XSE LW Commander and a 2013 Colt Gov.  Like 10mm, 38 Super is great if you reload.  Down here in the SW it is all over and not that expensive.  My wife calls my 2013 Gov. my Dillinger gun.  I tell her it is more like the great, great grandson I one he may have carried.

Have that Colt 38 Super in SS. Had to sent it back to Colt and it came back running perfect.

Looking at the new Colt 9mm Government and my guy has one in carbon and it looks sweet like your super. I prefer SS but carbon looks good also.
