I took my new XDM to the outdoor range where I had a three sided shooting bay to myself. I set up some IDPA cardboard targets and gave the gun a try.

I had Hornady XTP and HAP 180's loaded with Longshot. I also had some Xtreme Bullets 180 JHP and also some Everglade Bullets 180 JHP. I had some XTP's with Blue Dot also.
First impressions were good. The XDM fit my hand much better than the G29 I just sold. My reloads were all around 1200 fps and I thought the recoil was pretty good, stout but fun to shoot.
For now I stayed with the iron sights as the purpose of this gun is CCW to and from my hunting land and as a woods carry gun while filling pig feeders or scouting or general hunting land work.

My smaller hands and the magwell got along well and I plan to leave it just like it is.
The  round rear sight took me a little bit to adjust to as I was shooting a little low to start with but I got used to it and was able to get good hits out to 25 yards which is the best I can do with old eyes.
I really like this gun much better than the G29 but the G40 will still be my hunting gun.

Good job.  Glad that things went well.  1200 fps isn't bad at all.

I'm sure many may not agree with me and I'll probably be shunned for saying this, I'm not too keen on the grip angle of glocks in general.  They just don't seem to work well for me and just don't point or shoot naturally for me at all.  And for that, I'm grateful to have other choices because I couldn't squeeze my nose tight enough to be a glock fanboy.  Nope.  Not even grains of sand in the sahara desert for that to happen.

But even though I said that out loud, there's going to be other people that says that's why they like glocks because it fits them better.  And again, why I say: Options are good.

And if it works for you, at the end of the day, that's all that matters.

This post checked by independent fact checkers, and they're all pissed off about it.

I 100% agree with you, John A.  I too, much prefer the feel in my hand and grip angle of the XDM.  However, I have shot the G20 plenty, and if I were to ever to own a Gluck, that'd be the one.

Just saw this thread so I thought that I'd revive it!

I ran some Underwood hard cast 200's and 220's through mine with no problem.

I totally agree with you

Heres a link to some YouTube vids where the guy tests all kinds of 10mm ammo using both a 5" 1911 and the SA XDm Elite Compact.
