My old computer became irrasible after I gave it a glass of iced tea, so I'm using a new one. Like 50% of the world Idont remember the password and when I apply the recovery procedure the board refuses to allow me to recover. Message is that  I'm not permittd access. Can some one help me here? This is sent from my old computer which is getting more balky every try/.

I moved this the the questions suggestions area.

I have never tried to reset a user's password before as a moderator.  I can see fields to put in a new password, but it may or may not work.  I may get challenged for your old password.

I hesitate to take action on this when I am not fully aware of the procedures and consequences.

If Patriot or The_Shadow have experience I will defer to them.  If not, I will contact you via email and we can go on an adventure.

Patriot

Are you still having issues with this?

rognp

it still tells me i cannot access the new password page. i had tried to open another account but it denied that too. /////

This is very odd. I used my test account and I have no issues with these things. Try clearing your browser history and cookies, then login fresh.

Try a different browser.  Several will force HTTPS on any page they think is password related, but the forum doesn't support HTTPS.

Also, for that reason, you should NOT use a password here that is remotely common with any other passwords you use.

I couldn't break the blockade even by trying a different browser on a different unit. Finally I opened an email act with another provider and re registered. So here I am. Some interesting things to discuss.
Thanks for the attempts to get me back on line.

Well had new computer last oct. then fought with password protocol. Finally renamed and registered. The new computer crashed and password became issue again so I changed user name again and registered anew. Hope I'm not buggering up the system. Just me again with almost the same name.

I know this is an older post, but since it involved a lost password I thought I'd give y'all an idea on how to record and hide passwords in plain sight, it's called obfuscation.

Simply put it's using something only YOU would know to supply yourself with your password in a rule coded hint.

Say your third grade teacher was Ms.Smythe, and you want to use her name. Add to that the site you're visiting requires "special characters" a number, and a cap letter in your password. Let's also say that your user name must be your email login name (which you do not typically forget) and address which is fred@gmail.com

Since only you know the last name of your third grade teacher (or first dog's name, car model etc.) your obfuscated password /  user name list could be...
https://www.10mm-firearms.com   username:email  PW:teacher@123$
Here's where your own made up rules apply.

1. The first letter of the password is ALWAYS a cap,  so your password hint does NOT need to show it as a cap letter.2. The @ character is a pointer to your real special character which is one (or 2 or 3 or to the right) character to the LEFT making it the ! character.
3. The 123 will ALWAYS be typed in reverse order.4. The LAST character in this case $ is never actually used and is ignored.

So the REAL password would be Sythe!321

The variations on obfuscation are endless and you can see how impossible it would be for anyone to guess your password from your list. The key is develop a method, stick to it and do not forget it!

So even IF someone got your password list, they would have to know your obfuscation algorithm. I've been using  this since I started working at IBM in the 80's, and left my password  list in my desk drawer. Leaving a password out was a condition for immediate dismissal should a regular security audit check my desk so I did not question the seriousness of my obfuscation technique from being used against me, and it never was although I was questioned  on what it was and meant :-)

PS, if could speak a foreign language, you could use this also. Say your hint word was the bird species dove, Italian for dove is colomba (female) or colombo (male) and using gender is yet another obfuscation quirk!

Your password hint could be as in the above method: dove@123$ for colomba!321 (or colombo!321)
