While looking around for a holster for my M&P 4.6" 10mm, I came across a fellow who runs Packin' Holsters. I needed something that would let me use a light and optic, and also provide very positive retention while I hunt.

4.6" w/Streamlight TLR-1 and (soon to be) Holosun 507.

I optioned the Safariland 3 bolt pattern so I could use the QLS and switch between my battle belt and woods belt. This holster uses a thumb release hood retention. Very natural and instinctive to use.

Definitely recommend him. packinholsters@gmail.com

I'm glad you like the holster. I just want to warn about the combination of a red dot and the holster hood. In a 2-gun competition a couple years ago I witnessed an experienced shooter with that combo get the red dot caught on the hood. He struggled with it for a few seconds then sent an ND into his thigh. Not great. Luckily it wasn't a a JHP, and it didn't exit but I don't really know the outcome after the perimedics came.

For a pistol with an optic and retention I'd instead look into alternatives like the GLS, which is what I use for competition.

Thanks. Not competing with it.
Also, I have contacted Safariland and they told me they don't make anything for the 10mm and that the sights are too tall to clear.

I understand it's not a competition gun, but the same thing applies if you're going to draw it quickly in any stressful situation. An ND sucks anywhere, but especially in the woods alone.

Sorry, I'm not convinced. Safariland sells OR holsters with the hood, and I have shot with a lot of guys using them including high speed .mil guys. Not saying it can't happen, but holstering safely is part of gun safety.
