Kimber, Kimber... Kimber observations.

Today I went to my LGS and they got in a Kimber Super Jagare (or hunter). It's quite impressive, scratch that, it's a work of art, really. I've never handled anything like it in all my years and I can say the pics online don't do it justice.

That metal sculpting all over the place is THE most elegant I've seen and it's slick as owl snot and the Leupold optic  is bright, wide and clear but...

Even though the barrel is six inches, that porting down the length of the barrel will drain some of the 10's oomph... A null x optic at distance doesn't add up to the "Jagare." (or hunter) name either.
So, getting back to Kimber, Kimber... Kimber observations:
At $2500 compared to the 5 inch slide lightened Rapide at ~$1400-$1500 it's around a thousand buckazoids +/- more. The Super Jagare is certainly a gun for the better heeled (or recent heir) shooter /  collector.

OK, OK... feet on the ground, other than the visual aspect, my Kimber SS 6" hunter (or Tanfo hunter) in 10mm take a back seat to neither, and honestly at $1200 mine are not exactly cheap, but in the long run their longer unported barrel will likely squeeze the most out of the 10mm and with their heavier non lightened slides absorb some of the energy of real 10mm ammo.

Now if I can only unsee that Super Jagare in my very vivid visual recollection I'd be a LOT less inclined to sell off stuff to get one :-)

Is that a custom Hunter, or did they change the design?

Love my custom Hunter!

$2500 is a bit too spendy for a gun that's going to get beat up.  I have three Kimber 10mm, all full size, and they do everything I need them to.  The Custom TLE II is a work of art too, and came in at under $1000 used.

Agreed, The dealer I first mentioned above jacked the asking price up to $2800... I'll have to see if that works for him.

As it is, If I were to build it at Kimber, a "standard jagare" without the optic, or ported barrel. A standard barrel, FL guide rod, and extended slide stop with decent fixed sights and lightened slide with the frame treatments (something like a Rapide in 6") might get my master card out :-)

Oh well, I got the 5" and 6" 10mm's covered already... any thing added like the jagare would just be conspicuous consumption on my part.
