I'm pretty sure we've all learned a lot throughout our current ammo and component shortage, and will  hopefully never be caught with our pants down again. I have plenty of factory JHP's and range ammo, but am finding myself short on brass and bullets. I guess all I'm saying is once things calm down, and availability returns to somewhat normalcy, over stocking the pantry is our best bet 😊

Definitely. I will slowly stock, at a pace I can afford. Perhaps every payday just grab something. Do that for a year and have enough to last a long time.

My wife razed me on a regular basis in 2018 and 19 because I was buying so much factory ammo, but actually came and told me a few weeks back that it was pretty intuitive, Lol, has to be a first after 30 years of marriage 😂

Thankfully I have plenty of ammo on hand. For me my planning will be focused on reloading components. I paid through the nose for some powder, like $75/pound x5 pounds. But thats my fault with deciding to jump into the 6.5 Creedmoor during a time of ammo/component shortages. Seeing the prices of primers through the roof started to make me sweat a little bit. But I held tight and kept looking for primers at retail stores. My local Scheels recently had small rifle primers for $44/1000. I ended up with four of them. I am set for small rifle for quite a while also small pistol and large pistol. Now I just need to find some large rifle. Im no hurry though. If things return to normal or I can find stuff at or near normal retail I will continue to stock up. Ive started looking for powder in the 4 or 8 lb jugs. A month or so back I found a 4# of Lil Gun and 8# of AA#9 for normal retail at Midsouth Shooters. With that being said if I find semi good prices on factory ammo I will buy some. But right now I can go to the range anytime I want and not worry about what my next box of ammo is going to cost me or where am I going to find it....yet. The key to finding items is patience. I work nights and have days off during the week. So going to a retailer when most people are at work has paid off.

Absolutely, as long as components aren't banished from the market. With all the nuthead stunts happening lately, it wouldn't surprise me : (

Ken don't give them any ideas.

I have two semi obsolete calibers I load for so I didn't have as many components on hand as I should have. Loading for 30/06 and 30/30 was not worth the time spent when you could get them for less than 17.00 a box. Now 300 savage at 30.00 a box or 38/40 at 50.00 a box I load those for the savings. So I will stock up components that I can use across as many calibers as possible not just for the ones I reload.
You can't fix stupid but you can numb it for a while with a 2X4

I had run out of the Hodgdon CFE223 powder before all of the shortages started and bought another 8lb jug and a few primers too.  So as I sit here reading about the shortages, I processing some 556/223 brass to be loaded with 77 gr OT Match soon. 8)
The influx of the 300 Black Out loaders have depleted all of the 2nds and pulled 30 cal. bullets, so the 308 Win may wind up being loaded cast bullets for now.
These times are why I invested in molds for casting bullets. ::)

Things will one day settle down but don't expect to see prices go back down to the pre shortage levels.   :(
