200gr And 220gr Hardcast BHN 22 Hy Tek coated

sep

Couldn't see either attachment. Hickok45 has a video shooting 220 hardcast through a stock Glock 20 and the bullet keyholed. I would test them before I carried them for defensive purposes. I carry a 200 grain WFNGC for bear defense. I'm confident a CNS hit with them will stop a bear.

I was watching a video from another post regarding hog hunting from  Freedom Munitions with Keith Warren. He was using a 180gr XTP bullet and got a pass through into the tree behind the hog. If the XTP can do this to a tough old hog, a 200, or 220gr hard cast 10mm with the needed brinell hardness would certainly be effective. My biggest concern would be getting that CNS shot on a charging bear when your in the process of soiling your trousers.

Alaska

Yes that would be a major concern !
We had a hunter get killed this year sad story
He had a partner on a camping trip
The bear surprised him and was on his partner before he could react
He had a G20 but could not manipulate the pistol he threw it to his partner and he pulled the trigger ?.nothing. The 1st man that had the pistol forgot to chamber a round and the second man didn?t know anything about pistols. The second man dropped the pistol and ran for help.
He returned hours later with help and  his partner retrieved his pistol and collapsed on the trail a short distance away dead. Troopers tested the pistol is fully functional G20 loaded after the bear encounter by the deceased camper. Sad Story !

Kenk

Gosh, how do you forget to chamber a rd, very tragic

Some people do not carry pistols, rifles or shotguns with rounds in the chamber. If they choose to carry that way, they should train accordingly.

My assumption is most people don't train at all, let alone accordingly. A Navy Seal once told me "You will default to your level of training". I wholeheartedly believe that. It's sad really and preventable. Welcome to humanity.

Kenk

I?m pretty sure your 100% accurate in ? most people don't train at all? and is really really unfortunate for everyone involved

Yes you will default to basic soldier skills in the heat of battle
Been Their done it many times in combat .
Advance training in handguns and M4 carbine close quarters. But never in my life went into harms way with no round in the chamber. My weapon was only cleared just before I got on the plane to come home.
Here in Alaska its the same you step out into the bush its show time lock and loaded ready for Bear.

Kenk

It seems the most sensible too. It?s really not any different then when leaving my driveway, other than the critters aren?t quite as large or toothy 😀

Ramjet

Anyone making the choice to not chamber a round is carrying that weapon as symbol or protection. Practically speaking even training adds many seconds to get into a defensive posture those seconds will cost them their lives in more instances than not in a serious defensive situation. Especially stealthy or surprised wildlife that can eat you. With human you have the remote possibility the brandishing will diffuse the situation a pissed off bear not so much. You carry it should be ready to defend within seconds. Like you said training is key and high stress drills will prepare you best. Sad situation

Kenk

The one and only time I have brandished my carry weapon happened when waiting for the light rail in Mpls. This really large gentleman (I?m 6 3? and he made me seem small) asked me for a smoke, and I thought, sure, give the dude a smoke, then he decided he needed my wallet and phone. Without even thinking about what I was going to say (probably stupid) I said, I don?t think so as I brushed back my winter jacket exposing the G30 on my hip as if reaching for my wallet. His expression quickly changed, and the guy took off quicker than quick, and likely saved my skin.
