10mm brass, when to discard

In the past this was never a problem, as I would nearly always lose my brass after a few uses when shooting outdoors, now, at my indoor range, I?m able to find and reload the majority of them multiple times. So the question is, when running moderate target loads, how long can I realistically trust the brass? Say you?ve reloaded them 6 or 7 times, and after inspection, everything looks fine, as well as not finding loose or unusual primer pocket issues. At some point they are going to fail, split, or do something funky. It just seems like a guy should discard them before a problem arises?Thoughts?

10mm being a straight wall case helps to avoid excess work hardening when resizing them.  But be sure to inspect the brass and check that the bullet is still being held tight when reloaded.
If it gets work hardened the bass may not hold the resized dimension to hold the bullet firmly!

Thanks Wade, I?ve been paying close attention to that as well. It just seems like, as with anything, eventually it will fail.

I do find a few here and there that have issues, but I gota say, when I start out with new Starline brass and load them moderately like my 10.4gr BD, they seem to last forever

I use them till they split... Don't see this till about 15x reloaded. Starline brass is prob 95 % of what I reload with.
But as mentioned, I do a few push tests on the rounds during set up.  Measure and then press against the bench, then remeasure to check for loose fit

Other brands are kept totally separate as some of the brands are a bit more "springy" and fail to hold set from the die... these get thrown away.

Thanks, and also thank you for the 15 samples

I have found that the 10mm case seem to budge at the base of the case. I loose about 10 per 100 that willl not seat in my case gauge after de priming and sizing in my Dillon 550.. I cant say how many times the brass has been reloaded.

No problem... just let me know what you think of them after testing.

Like I prev stated, I just wish they were .401,  but really no other complaints and have used at least 5K

Base expansion also  depends on what gun they are fired in...
My G20/3 expands to about .432 ( glock known to be loose ) while the Sig 220/10 maxes out at .427
BIG difference when working them in the press.

I only load my hunting and woods defense cases a couple times. Then they become used for plinking loads til they split. Sometimes they split upon firing, sometimes they split when trying to seat a bullet. It's amazing how long they last.

Most all of my 10mm gets run thru 1006-1076..and now M/P..

I?m assuming due to my P220 Elite?s chamber support it may aid in the brass?s longevity, but I guess I don?t know. I certainly couldn?t hurt.

The Elite is prob tight like my P220... less expansion equals less working of brass which can lead to brittleness ( case cracking )...
would be interested to see measured the cases from yr gun. Even max loads never get over .427

Will see what I can come up with, Thanks
