Was wondering if any of you have had issues with Hornadys Critical Duty 135gr +P 9mm hanging up on the feed ramp (when chambering the first rd) I have done a ton of research / many videos, and keep coming across this possible problem, as well as that that Critical Duty supposably has a slightly longer OAL than standard SD ammo. Due to my friend at a local gun shop?s generosity, I was able to secure 200 rd?s at a great price for testing. Because this will be another option for carry ammo, I ran 100 rd?s through my XDm 3.8, using 5 different mags with zero malfunctions. Because this ammo is marketed toward  LE / governmental agency?s, it seems highly unlikely Hornady would allow this to happen. Thoughts?

Glad things worked well for you.  Had not seen anything about people having issues

Me too, if you were to Google ? Hornadys Critical Duty 135gr +P 9mm hanging up on the feed ramp? several come up, it sounds like a protruding flex tip was the culprit for a few of the failures

I still favor the 124gr +P Gold Dot, or Federal?s 124gr +P HST, however Hornadys Critical Duty offering is getting some good marks for its barrier blind attributes

I got a good deal on this ammo a few days ago.  I ran 25 rds through my S&W Shield with no issues.

Obviously for defense you cant risk a round that FTF etc.  I would look and see what the larger police/sheriff's dept uses in your area. In my former state , Ca LAPD and LA Sheriff both issued Winchester Ranger STX  147 gun in 9mm and 230 gun in 45. That is around 23K officers and deputies in the 2 agencies alone. Both agencies do extensive testing.  Since I retired they have added more mfg 's to the list as ammo was or is still difficult to come by.

Thanks Aegis, I?ve done exactly that. After checking with a friend from our local Sheriffs Dept. regarding carry ammo, he highly recommended what they carry, either Gold Dots or HST, primarily in a 124gr +P variety.

Ran into my sheriff buddy again on Sunday, and asked if he or any of his coworkers used the Ranger T Series 124, or 127 gr +P ammo. He said absolutely, some do, so I dug into my pre-pandemic stash, and did a 100 rd reliability check with the XDm 3.8 - 9mm on Monday. Once again, no feeding issues. I have to say, Springfield did a nice job on that weapon.
