10mm ammo is good for hunting or predator defence. Which 10mm ammo
is good for deer hunting?

any full power 180 gr. or 200 gr. hollow point will work on deer. its the heavy body & bone, thick hide &fat of bears & hogs that need hard heavy solid bullets.

I concur. Accuracy is a consideration, too.

For whitetail, Underwood?s 180, or 200gr XTP has served me well

I'd go with the XTPs too.... good round
Prob the 200gr loaded on warm/hot side.

I have always been a big fan of Federal Fusion which is a bonded bullet. I have this ammo in just about every caliber I would hunt deer with (7.62x39, 450 BM, 308, 30-06, 6.5 CM, 41 Mag, 44 Mag, 357 Mag). They do offer it in a 10mm 200 grain version. Target sports has it in stock at $38.99/box of 20. I Used this in a 243 Win on a deer that was quartering away. During skinning I found the bullet in the neck. The bullet was a 100 grain with the recovered bullet weighing 98.2 grains. This is my go to bullet for hunting. A few years ago Federal release bullets for reloading. I bought 200 150 grain 30 caliber bullets and have good success with them.

180 Grains

I have killed deer and pigs with Hornady 180 gr XTP ammo. The 180 gr is all you need.  You do not have to shoot hard cast unless you just prefer them.

Or if there?s bears in them there woods 😂

The 180-200gr XTP is proven beyond doubt.

The 200gr Federal Fusion is probably best I think but I am not sure it would matter. If you do want the Fusion I would get it while it is in stock ... I just found a few boxes after waiting over a
year.

As others have said a reliable 180-200gr bullet will do. I would also read some other threads here including my own on hunting wild hogs, lots of useful info.

For those of you that have successfully taken a deer or hog with 180 xtp's, how were your experiences?

How far did you have to track it after a good shot?  What about blood trail?

Need follow up shots?

Shot distances?

Dead right there?

I'm struggling wrapping my head around an expanding hunting round and am just looking for first hand experiences.

Edit to add, we do have bears.  Lots of big black bears.  Some well over 600 lbs.  Wolves.  Big cats.  A whole smorgasborg of critters here.
This post checked by independent fact checkers, and they're all pissed off about it.

Hey John, took an aprx 160lb doe a few years back with Underwood?s 180gr XTP, with no follow up shots needed, and at a distance of 25 yards or less. My shot placement wasn?t stellar, yet she didn?t go far, 50 - 60 yards max. Next fall I will likely go with a 200gr expanding bullet, or possibly one of underwood?s Xtreme Hunter line with their Lehigh copper solid bullets

I responded with my experience in your carbine post.

Welcome to the forum.  In addition to the fine options listed above, encourage you to search and sniff around the forum.  You'll find an amazing amount of information about 10mm deer and medium game hunting ammunition options and knowledge.  You won't find a better resource repository of 10mm hunting ammo information anywhere on the internet.

Good luck!

so once my 10mm rifle comes, I plan on going hunting. I've never been hunting before - I'm a northron by birth. How do people usually go about getting their kill made into a wall trophy - from moment of confirming their shot to it getting on the wall?
