I wanna take my Glock 20 hunting sometime soon, but a lawyer friend of mine says he doesn't think handgun hunting is legal in Virginia. Does anyone know the definitive answer to that? The lawyer does tons of 2A litigation so how he doesn't know this, IDK. What about other states and handgun hunting?

I am considering an AR-15 in 10mm, but for now, all I got in the best millimeter (or any millimeter) is a handgun.

Legal in PR of MD for deer and bear, with 6" barrel and more than 700 FP/KEl. Small game barrel irrelevant.

Many states I read regs on have a minimum caliber requirement not cartridge. But then there are places that may forbid handgun hunting big game. A call or visit to the website of the game / fish department is always a good idea.

C. In the counties west of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and counties east of the Blue Ridge where rifles of a caliber larger than.22 caliber may be used for hunting wild birds and animals, game birds and animals may be hunted with pistols or revolvers firing cartridges rated in manufacturers? tables at 350 foot pounds of energy or greater and under the same restrictions and conditions as apply to rifles, provided that no cartridge shall be used with a bullet of less than.23 caliber. In no event shall pistols or revolvers firing cartridges rated in manufacturers? tables at 350 foot pounds of energy or greater be used if rifles of a caliber larger than.22 caliber are not authorized for hunting purposes.

Pennsylvania is a bit different.
Autoloading rifles are ok only for small game and varmints.

No autoloading handguns of any type.

center fire revolvers, single shot, etc. are fine with a permit.

So I would be legal with my grandads 32 snub nose revolver...but illegal with my 10mm 1911.
