Have been considering a Smith 1076 for some time, and was hoping for your thoughts regarding overall reliability, potential problems, and parts availably.

I have 4 1076's excellent guns  all steel very heavy duty. Parts are still around you may have to search some... The magazines are the tough one as the average price seems to be 85 to 100..  There is really no difference in performance from the FBI model and the regular production model. The LE versions do not have the mag disconnect. VSP used the 1076 and 1026 as did other agencies.I saw a regular one at a gun show in No Idaho last year for 600  bucks, kick my self for not buying it..The 1006 was the most produced of the S&W 10's. Very similar to the 4506 they must share most of the same parts. I would look at 1006 as there will be more access to parts. I have 13 S&W 10's for over 20 years and have not replaced any parts other than recoil springs.

The 1026/1076's were very reliable pistols.  Look for the 2 dimples under the decock lever to confirm the decock upgrade.  I'm not sure if S&W still does the upgrade.

S&W 1076- 4.25" barrel, frame mounted decocker traditional double action
These can be decocked by pushing down on the frame mounted decocking lever, the hammer is dropped to a half or partially cocked position and pulling the trigger will cock and fire the pistol.  After the gun is fired it is fully recocked and the gun is fired single action till empty or decocked.  The hammer when dry fired will be all the way down but pulling the trigger will cock and fire the gun.  Some models can be fired without the magazine present if the magazine disconnect is removed.  FBI models worked this way..

Hey Shadow, what are your thoughts on the 1006, vs the 1076? It sounds like the 1006's' were produced in higher numbers and parts  / mags may be more accessible

All the S&W 10XX series use the same mags so whatever problem you would have acquiring mags for a 1076 would be the same for a 1006.

oldman10mm is correct the 10xx series of S&W all use the same mags...9 round count.
There were some 11 round and 15 round mags but they are rare and very expensive if you come across any of them. Back in 1990 I contacted S&W about purchasing some of the higher capacity and they said they were Law Enforcement only!

Parts are sometimes being sold but understand that those are demanding premium prices as well.

The 1076 is a workhorse. Mine was stolen in a home robbery 12 years ago, it was never recovered.
