Hey guys. Just wanted to drop a quick greeting here. I figured it was a good time to get myself a 10mm from this tax refund so I got myself a Glock Gen3 G20SF and all the reloading goodies to go with it. The pistol should be arriving within the next few days as will all sorts of components and such. I  always appreciate good tips on handloading so I asked around and everyone said this forum is the place to be. While I'm new to the 10mm, I'm not a greenhorn on reloading or firearms. I've been reloading for 36 years. A couple of you may know me from my tinkerings and R&D with the 450 Bushmaster and my You Tube channel. If not, that's okay too. I've always wanted to have a 10mm pistol but I just never committed. But I like to hunt and I live in hog country and I think the 10mm in an auto loader like the 1911 or the Glock is probably the best choice for hogs. And there's no doubt the round is effective on most North American critters including felonious bipeds. So here I am. I've finally committed to own, carry and reload a 10mm. About the only thing I've not been able to get my hands on is some Blue Dot... Any help there would be great.  So. Yeah. Hi. It's me. I'm just here to learn.

Welcome Sheepdawg,
You are correct, this forum is the place to be. As for Blue Dot, it's one of my favorites, along with BE-86 for 10mm hand loads. In addition, the G20 will serve you well. If your 10mm quest continues, and you are interested in an economical 1911, take a look at the Rock Ultra full size HC, and can be had for aprx $700.00. Enjoy and be safe

Welcome to the addiction.  Although you are familiar with the basic idea if you already reload and have work with cartridges like the 450 bushy.

10mm is pretty straightforward to load.  None of the small case capacity concerns like various small capacity 9mm rounds.  No case wall taper to speak of. I did read the other day on another website that someone found some small primer 10mm brass, so we are going to have that fun.

I use lots of Blue Dot and BE-86.  The latter powder is probably my new "go-to" powder.  I have also had good results with Longshot,Power Pistol, and AA#9.  Unique makes fine practice loads, but hits pressure too soon for best velocity.

Welcome Sheepdawg. I thought your name was familiar. Your over on the 450 Bushmaster forum with the same name correct? I got into the 450 last year and have been lurking on that forum for a little while. I saw a post about using 250 grain Nosler bullets that I intend to try someday. For the 10mm I also use Blue Dot sometimes but mostly use Longshot.

Again welcome.

Thanks. And Yes Sir. I'm the one and only Texas Sheepdawg, God help us all... And yeah, I'm also one of the moderators on the Thumper site.
I've got some Nosler 230Gr FMJ .451" flat points that I'm gonna be working up just as soon as I can get some free time. I love those flat points. In the 450B it's a good tissue and CNS distrupter. Just what you need for nasty critters who don't cooperate with a simple blood loss wound. I'm sure the 10mm in a flat nose is just as effective. I'm a little curious how the Hornady 180 Grain HAP bullets shoot and perform in game. So if anyone has any antidotes I'm all ears.

"Welcome to the addiction" Haha! That's what I tell my new members over on the 450B forum! My avatar is a 450Bushmaster cartridge morphed into a syringe with a cup of Lil Gun powder next to it!
Thanks!
I'm having a hard time finding Blue Dot right now. BE-86 I've never seen on the shelves here in my AO but then again I probably just overlooked it. I'll check that one out. Maybe I can find some local. Some of that other powder you mentioned I've got a few pounds of each on hand so that might be what I have to use for the time being. But I'm definitely wanting some Blue Dot. I like the versatility and ranges of that particular powder.

Well, I'm a happy camper! Picked up my G20 today. Looks and feels really good. Haven't shot it yet. So now I'm at the KKM site debating getting an aftermarket barrel. I reload so I'm thinking the KKM chamber might better serve my needs. Plus, I kinda like shooting lead for plinking and aggravating steel plates. Thoughts?

Nothing fancy. But I'm loving this caliber so far. Just function tested and rocked a few mags of the Fiocchi 180gr HP. At around 7yards and I like! Now to get some reloading started. And I'm still tempted to get that KKM barrel. I just don't know which one I want to order.

Well. I decided on the KKM stainless barrel with threads f/suppressor and thread protector. Now the wait begins.

Welcome Sheepdawg, from another old retired Fireman!

Glad to have you on the forum...The 10mm is fairly easy to load for but being a semi auto care needs to be taken when seating and crimping usually in two separate steps.
The G-20 SF is a very good shooter and reliable with mine.  I run a Wolff GunSprings "non" captive recoil rod and 22lbs spring for mine that works reliably with all my 10mm and conversion barrels for 40S&W, 357Sig and 9x25Dillon.  If you need any help be sure to ask questions...

Best regards!  :D

Thanks Shadow. I retired from firefighting back in 2010 when I started feeling sick. Got diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma in 2015 and lost a kidney. Remaining kidney has a small tumor on my adrenal gland which makes my life very interesting. Anyway, I've been wanting a G 20 ever since an old friend of mine told me they were the bees knees. I just never committed to the 10mm as I was busy obsessing over other cartridges like the 450 Bushmaster, 6.5 Grendel and more recently the 6.5 creedmore. But finally this year I was able to focus on getting a G20. So here I am. Let the fun begin. Special thanks to my buddy, Ted for encouraging me to take this journey.

I do have a question for you guys. Is it wrong to have your gunsmithing toolbox stationed in the kitchen?
