Some Months back we had a couple threads on the Ruger GPs in 43 Spl and 10mm. I really like that While Capp version. BUT, its short bbl are not allowed for hunting here. (Need a 6" bbl) But I searched them out and I do very much like the feel and idea but the costs. I simply cannot justify 800$ revolver from Ruger. Some here did find them cheaper but still just little to rich.

I had resisted the G40 because I have a 6.1" KKM Bbl for my g20 and didn't see the advantage. So I never bought one...

Well, One advantage is its lighter (I had no idea!) and another is a longer sight radius. I did know it would fit my G20 holsters. But still a "plus".
I believe that my KKM barrel will fit the G40 as well.(Anyone know for sure?)

I was in a local shop and lo and behold they have three of these. Two used and one new. New is also a bit costly for what it is at almost 680$ But both used ones are priced right. One bone stock and one has some parts on it. Parts I would Likely add anyhow. (Im not one who believes in Glock Perfection) Ill modify to fit me on this gun as it will never see a PP/CC role. I likely will not be using optics here. But I know that the guns are factory set up for them. My G20 wears a RMR and should I get the G40, Ill compare and decide later if Ill be swapping optics.

I also have a Gen4 G29 thats becoming a personal favorite Glock for all it brings to the table.

Any one have one or both of these bigger Glocks? Can you comment with experience and advice?

My use or better said my reason for buying is as a hunting gun. But It will see Steel and Plate matches to get experience shooting loading and handling it. (One place I go allows Me to use the 10 as long as I shoot lead and not heavy loads.)

I shot a steel match a few years back with the G20 and discovered that many revolver shooters had complained of hard to topple targets... Well I cleaned a Texas star with one center shot of the ten. Many many doubles and triples on racks too. (If you dont tell, Ill admit to using this bit of intel, at most matches now with my 40 & a heavier 180g to test) :p:rolleyes:

For hunting and knocking down steel the G40 should be just about perfect.

I have one, and can vouch for it. It isn't lighter than the other Glocks though. It's a big, front heavy pistol. My buddy put a Vortex on his which really seemed to balance it out.

Good luck with your choice! I do not think you will be disappointed with a G40.

Edit: Not sure about the KKM barrel, but it should fit. I know KKM could tell you.

I'll preface this with I enjoy longslide pistols so I may be biased....

I have 2 g40s, one I opened up the breechface to a 45 sized case so I could run my 38 casull with an MOS setup, the other I just bought recently and I have a 7" KKM barrel installed.  The g40 is a little muzzle heavy but with a full mag itll balance out.  I have a vortex venom on the 38 casull g40 and have really grown to like the reflex sights.

I have medium sized hands and find no backstraps installed is most comfortable for me.  I also put extended slide stops in both to make things easier reach.  Clanging targets at 50-100yds is pretty easy to do.  The 6.1" kkm barrel will drop in and function fine so blast away!

My favorite lead load is a 220g ackerman hardcast bullet over 12.8g AA9 and a cci350 @ 1.260", runs 1330fps from the 7", is accurate and hits with authority.

I bet that is a bit of an understatement, is it hard on the gun?  This loading interests me.

Caseheads aren't bad compared to heavy 800x loads but it definitely has stiff recoil.  Its right at the point where I can feel the slide making contact with the frame with the stock spring.  I'll probably thread the barrel and add a compensator to tame things down a bit but I'm going to test a couple different recoil spring setups first before I go comp.

Is this a 10mm loading?

I shot up to 8g of Blue Dot today. All 220g loads. No excessive case head expansion Win LP primers begining to flatten. Accurate golf ball groups @ 25 yards.

Yes 10mm load, fired from both my g40 and sr1911.  Accurate load in both.

Ive gone up to 10g of BD under the same 220g bullet and at 10g im running 1179fps in the 5" 1911 and 1300fps in the 7" kkm.

The ackerman bullets are .690-.692 long for reference.

I got one glock, its a G40, its also my 40 S&W as well with a conversion barrel. I got well, the G40 is a great gun, I find myself getting "Accessories" for it such as a barrels as its easier for me to do that than get a new gun I can't afford to get usually. I'm glad I got this pistol, I can configure it to what I want it to be. I got my G40 when I could afford to get it, so far its a platform that has filled many roles for me.

I got mine for an easier to carry multi-tool woodsgun for woodsy walk around protection and for hunting deer and the reason for 15 shots was a feral dog incident I had a while a go. Other wise I'd just use my Superredhawk in 44 mag for pistol hunting.

Thanks SS!

I am working up BlueDot loads now. Started at 7.0, by 8 I could see primer beginning to flaten but no appreciable case head expansion,  by 8.5 noticable flat primers and .003 /.004 case head expansion in my G29 factory barrel.

Congratulations, excellent choice.

Ramjet

Excellent choice I have an RMR and a 7" KKM barrel and it is a legit 75 yard accurate gun.

Look forward to some reports.

Nice group, what does the lever on the back of the top pistol do?

cwlongshot

I use the G20 in pin matches at one clubs. (because they spread a tarp and allow brass pickup.) My wife shoots it with me and she cannot grip the slide tight enough to manipulate it. So the lever is a easier & faster way to rack the slide.

I like it enough to add one to my G35 I use for 3gun too!
