200gr JHP / Long Shot question

I was graced with a small quality of Speer Gold 200gr JHP's after much communication and hounding. Will the Hodgdon / Longshot data for 200 GR. HDY FMJ be a good min / max starting point for the 200gr GD JHP's?, or should adjustments be made because it's not a FMJ bullet? Also, I will likely shorten the C.O.L to 1.255. The brunt of my 10mm hand loads have been done with Blue Dot under a 180gr HAP, or XTP, and am not not very experienced  with 200gr and up bullets. I also have Power Pistol, BE-86, and Blue Dot on hand, but am not finding much data for 200gr JHP's with the other powders
Thanks in advance

Ken

KenK, when I tested the older style 200 Gr Gold Dots that were pulls from a 40S&W contract run and sold by RMR a while back I tested with LongShot.

9.4 grains yielded some hot but useable loads...tested by myself and Intercooler

Speer 200gr Gold Dot LongShot test (loaded by me)
LongShot    9.4 grains Remington 2 ½ primers COAL 1.250" Star Line 0.4290"
LongShot    9.4 grains Remington 2 ½ primers COAL 1.250" Jag Brass
Tested 8/16/2013 in the S&W1006 1265 fps / 710 ft lbs primer moderately flattened, raised dimple wiped, case stayed in chamber pulled of the extractor...Expansion 0.4290"

Tested Jan/1/2014 one of the Speer 200 grain Gold Dots I had previously loaded to 1265 fps using 9.4 grains of LongShot.
Projectile penetrated 4 gallon water jugs but was stuck in the partial hole in the back of fourth gallon jug.  One petal was in the third jug but the rest was in the 4th jug.
I backed off to 9.2 grains of LS, bringing the velocity down to the 1220-1230 fps range.

Tested by Jesse Atkins  LongShot
Limited Pro 4.75" 200gr Gold Dot 9.4gr's LongShot 1285, 1299, 1298, 1289, 1274. Average = 1289 FPS/ 738 LBS. Stout and accurate!
Speer 200gr Gold Dot HP 9.2gr's Long Shot 1235, 1248, 1211, 1252, 1239. Average = 1237 FPS/ 680 LBS Nice!

Tested by Jesse Atkins 800X
Limited Pro 4.75" 200gr Gold Dot 9.4gr's 800-X 1208, 1216, 1265, 1230, 1237. Average = 1231.2 FPS/ 673 LBS. Another nice one!

How do the Gold Dot and XTP 200s compare to each other re loading data ?

Haven't done GDots, but do load the 200XTPs to 10.4 of bluedot for woods

The 200 grain Gold Dots seem to track well with the 200 grain XTP's as loaded.  One thing I did notice about the Gold dots is that there is a small reduction of diameter above where the crimp would be.  With the sample of Speer 200 Grain Gold Dot bullets that the Speer Team sent to me, I noticed that the bullet has a gentle stepped section just below the ogive at a diameter of 0.3980" about 0.2250" to 0.2650" below the nose.  That will reduce frictional surface area and possibly keep pressures slightly lower...see photo below.  When I first saw that on the older pulled bullets, I thought that was do to the pulling process.

So starting at, or slightly below Hodgdon / Longshot's max of 8.2gr's, and working up to the lower 9gr area would likely get me to a good fit for this powder / projectile weight combination? Lastly, considering the powders I have on hand, Long Shot, Power Pistol, BE-86, and Blue Dot, is Long Shot one of my better options? nuclear loads are not my objective, but approaching them
Thanks Folks!

my current loading with 200 gr. bullets is 9.0 gr. of Longshot. my chrono averages with Nosler 200gr JHP, Everglades Ammo's 200 gr. FMJ ad Missouri Bullet's 200 gr. TMJ bullets are;
200 gr Nosler JHP shot from Witness 1180 fps. shot from 4.5" XDM 1206 fps.
200 gr. FMJ                                      1184                                     1192
200 gr TMJ                                       1184                                     1202

Thanks Blaster, are you achieving decent accuracy with the 9gr's of LS?, also, what C.O.L. Is working best for you? 1.25ish?

my loads have a C.O.L. of around 2.250 -57.
also a correction. the plated bullets (TMJ) were from Berry's NOT Missouri.
