Anyone else peeved at Glock for the new G45?

Now they have something they didnt need to make...yet another 9x19 handgun. Those efforts should have been put towards something different. Like a 10mm on the G36 platform with a 7+1 capacity. That would sell and sell well I think! How about a single stack version of the G20, for a 1911 feel? But I think my 10mm G36 idea would be best.

I noticed they skipped G44. Must be working on a manual safety version of the G45/19X.

G44 was/is the 19X.  Which is barely any different at all from this gun.

The reality is we are going to see fewer and fewer semi-auto handguns in any caliber but 9mm.  I have hardcore 1911/45 ACP friends that are buying polymer 9mm's lately after reading the latest round of "caliber doesn't matter" articles about the handgun cartridge war and the FBI transition back to 9mm.

The irony to me is that energy has to matter, else why would we have rifles?  No one will argue that a 150 grain .308 bullet at 3300 fps is better than a 200 grain .401 bullet at 1200 fps, regardless of the distance.

What the FBI has right is that accuracy matters most, and is far and away more important than any other factor.   Cooper had it right with DVC, though maybe it should have been written:

DVC

to get the proper emphasis on things.

But, where the FBI is missing the boat is power was second on Cooper's list.  Sometimes you only get one shot.  And in those times it needs to really count as much as possible.

And, follow up shots to count, hence the last element of speed.  Accurately get the highest power rounds on target as fast as you can.  For many people 9mm is a good option.  80% of the population can shoot the 9mm accurately and quickly with relatively minimal training.  And if you want to handle something more (40, 45 , 10, etc) you have to do a BUNCH more training.  80/20 rule.

The main driving force, is Law Enforcement agencies that mostly all have switched back to 9mm for several reasons...
The cost of ammo for training purposes.
Uniformity of ammo between various agencies.
Variations of firearms chambered for 9mm to basically fit anyone and everyone.
The duty to bring perps to justice vs. killing them.
Contracts for firearms and ammo that are readily available.
Ammo companies pushing the boundaries with the 9mm ammo performance.

I dont have anything against the 9mm, I like'em. With the new bullets, like the HST, the 9mm is probably more effective than it used to be. I carry a Glock 43 sometimes, it has 147 HST's in it. But I love my 10mm, and I will continue to carry it. Switching to those 100 grain Xtreme Defenders will mitigate the recoil difference.

I'm utterly bored to death with the 9mm craze.  Oddly I did buy a G45 but I just can't warm up to the 9mm, I do see it as a sufficient cartridge for self defense, but in a minimalistic kind of way.  I'm an oddball I guess in that I really like the .40 S&W but everyone loves to hate it for some reason.  Everywhere you turn it seems like you see these hipster millennials with beards wearing shades, dressed like they're all hardcore operators, carrying these tricked out 9mm's with grip jobs and red dot sights...ughh.

I think it's easy for people to defend what they're invested in, so if they really believe that the 9mm is as good as anything else I think the root cause of that is them defending they're choice more than it being based in reality.

I don't really understand why Glock thought the features of the G45 were really worthy a new model designation, it's basically a black 19x with a few minor differences.  Now that said, I do like the Gen5 Glocks for the most part.  At first I had zero interest in them (mainly due to them being 9mm only for now) but I bought a G26 Gen5 and then a G45 (both gone now)  and the finish is better and so is the trigger, it's pretty darn good.  I've had the G43 in the past too and the new Gen5 Glocks basically have the same trigger setup, it's got an even shorter reset than you see in the earlier generation Glocks.

That said, I'd jump on a few Gen5 .40's if Glock ever decides to release them.

I'm not buying any 9mm's because it's not a round I prefer.
I've owned them and it just doesn't perform well enough for my needs.

If Glock can make money with another 9mm that's what they'll do and that's ok and good business.

The current Gen5 frame, as Glock has already stated, will never be anything but 9x19. The absence of a locking block pin, the design wont support any other cartridges.

Gen5's are no interest to me. My skinny fingers fit the finger grooves perfectly.

I think a 17 slide with a 19 grip would have sold better.
